Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

Jimmy, Thanks for getting the pictures back! I wanted to see where you cut the frame at the front of the cab. Does it have plenty of clearance? THANKS, Scott

If you have your cab off already it might be kinda tough to get just right but here is a pic of mine:

thats the pass side. I had to pound the lip up with a hammer..if i was to do it again i would have cut further up and made more of a slope. I was a pu$$y about cutting my frame when i first started

Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

You got any updates for dropping the core support?
If i understand right all you do is cut the frame between the
suspension and the core support and then weld it back in
lower down (as far as your BD was) and brace it. Correct?

Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

i use a Lincoln precision TIG 275 for just about everything on my truck. You would need something that welds up to 1/4" plate at least for the stock floor frame work.

Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

so how about those pictures of the core support??

what did you do to drop the bed? i bet it's relatively easy, but doesn't hurt to ask . . .

and just wondering about the x-cab situation, and using 3x4 tubing instead, does that mean you cannot drop it as far? or will there still be room for the 2.5 inches?

Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

Is there any reason why you wouldn't weld the 2x4 to the top of the frame? Then you could cut the bottom off. Rather than drop the body, you would raise the frame.

Any thoughts?

You may have tranny alignment issues?

then your front end suspension, tranny, and engine would hang too low, as well as needing a bigger notch out back to lay frame. You could Z the frame up front if you really wanted, as well as put a 3" larger notch out back. Thats how the 73-87's are done, but their frames only hang down 1" past the rocker, not 3" like the 88-98's

Re: OBS Stock Floor Body-Drop how-to....lay that rocker

you would also have to pull 3 more inches out of the suspension thats probably already at its limits.

I thought it sounded too easy! And my truck is a 95 Lightning. The frame is almost 4" below the rocker. I wanted to build a frame to ditch the Ibeams. I was going to do a Mustang II IFS up front and a T-bird IRS in the back. But its way out of my budget!

Thanks for the replies!
