Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

what if the truck already has fog harness' hanging? My neighbor has a 2004 that didn't come equipped with factory fogs, but I'm trying to get him set up. His truck already has the harness hanging for the lights, but no switch - not sure if he has the fog relay, can we just install the lights and switch and have the BCM reprogrammed(if needed)? The harness that comes in that kit, I assume it is running down to the fogs for power?

The harness that came with my kit runs from the under hood fuse box to the lights. The harness that goes to the fog/cargo light switch was already set up for both switches.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

I installed these on my 03 Silvy Single Cab and used my original dam, there is a molding cast mark right were you need to cut for the foglamps. The kit I ordered did not include the airdam. And my BCM did need to be reprogrammed. I assume it is because it is a single cab as opposed to a extended.

How did you mount the lamps once you cut the holes, what do they mount to?

the factory fogs on the 03+ mount to the bottom edge of the bumper with speed nut clips.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

Update.

Fog lights worked on my neighbor's 2004 Silverado. Had to buy switch, lights and the relay. Installed everything and they work, no reprogramming of the BCM required

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

Bob,

A big thanks to you for the step by step instructions. I did my installation today and if I had followed the directions with the wrong diagram my lights might not be working now. Everything went well and the lights worked immediately.

Have a great Merry Christmas.

Bill

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

i tried installing factory foglights on a 2002 Z71, i got them all hooked up right and everything but they still didnt work and i was told i needed a VIN# so the BCM will recognize the foglights, is this true? or is there another way i can get em workin? thanks

The red wire is in the plug shown in the photos; goes into the bottom of the fuse block. Dunno about '00.

I think the computer already knows the VIN. I think what you are referring to is installing a factory radio. It has something to do with theft resistance... radio sniffs the computer's VIN to see if it is in the right vehicle.

On 99-02 you have to get the dealer to program the BCM for the foglights.

You only need the VIN on 03+ for the factory radio.

I think just some random trucks got the full wiring harness and some didn't.My '02 had all the wiring but no switch, relay or holes in the valance.Mark hooked me up with the whole kit but i still needed to program my bcm.

No, he bought the truck brand new, no tow hooks or fog lights. The only thing that was there was the harness running from the relay to the lights. The relay, switch and lights were not installed from the factory. The valance openings were filled in as well.

Yeah , thats how mine was.The dealer thought i should change the lower harness anyway as long as i had one cause the original ends were a little crudded up.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

I bet the dealer swapped them. Someone probably wanted a truck that didn't have fog lights and the dealer swapped the air dam and lights between the two because the non fog light trucks don't get the wiring harness and its easier for the dealer to stick on a new harness than pull the one off with the fog lights.

oh, is that how that works, wonder how they go about deleting the RPO and adjusting the sticker price

The newer trucks are wired for a lot of accessories that aren't included on some models. My buddy had an 03 with no cruise control, he bought the signal lever switch that had cruise, plugged it in and he had cruise control. I don't have a tranny temp guage, but it's wired for it, does that mean I got robbed by the dealer?
I'm not trying to start a pissing match, but there have been a few members that have done this mod and had harness' for the lights
