Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado
They find a truck with an option package that had the fogs included in that package that way there isn't a listed rpo code.
A lot of people think that they do prewire a lot of stuff but they don't anymore. Your tranny temp gauge there isn't a seperate wire for, the sensor is built in all 4l60e's and the gauges are all controlled by the class II bus so theres nothing to wire. I don't have power seats and was going to use the power feed for the seats to connect a couple more 12v jacks and found they didn't run that wire. Was going to add fogs to my fathers truck and there are no wires. When I started adding to my s10, I had to run a lot of wires, it didn't have the fog wires, power window or lock wiring, or power up to the sun visors for the vanity lights, simple little things like that. Gm (well delphi but they were still owned by gm then) put a lot of work into their metripack stuff so the wiring can be plug and play easily so they didn't have to prewire everything.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado
I spent a large chunk of change for the Chrome Air dam for my 2000 Siverado. As I am unable to use hand tools(disabled vet), I decided to have a Chevy dealer install the fog light kit and program the BCM. I will NEVER again goto a GM dealer for any work.
I found out the hard way that the dealer in Arkansas has a flat rate of $88 an hour and the manual supposedly says installing the fog lamps takes four hours.
A few simple steps to plug in components and a little bit of bending down to make connections. The Head Mechanic supposedly did the work. The only hard thing was soldering connectors - he had to cut off the connectors from the round driving lights and solder them to the supplied factory harness.
The driving lights were in place when I went to this dealer.
Distinctive Chrome Air Dam (Local PU Parts Whse) %
Fog Light Kit 4" Round (Required for this air dam) 438.00
Factory Fog Light Kit(From gmpartsdirect) 93.00
Install air dam and lamps 53.00
Install Fog Lamp wiring and program BCM (includes
26.00 shop charge(asst BS)) 296.00
Total waste of money 880.00
While I could have bought the air dam online for less money, even the installer had problems with it(They broke three lamps). Online shipping would have been 93 bucks; since the air dam was warped I would have to ship it back at self cost - so I guess I did all right getting this part from a local dealer and having them install it.

Can you put the GMC 03-06 kit on an 03 Chevy HD

I never saw an answer to this one. I have an '03 1500HD and would love to put the fogs in. I always figured it would have been more than $400 so this is a good deal if it would fit?

So are you asking if a GMC kit will fit a Chevy or just asking if it's a good price?
GMC's and Chevy's are not the same kit.GMC's have round fog lights.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado
I just installed the fog lamps (part # 12499673) on my 2005 Chevy 2500 HD. I was also told by the dealer that I would have to have the BCM reprogrammed, but the lights work just fine. If for some reason the lamps don't work, check the ground wire to ensure a solid ground. If the ground is good, try disconnecting the battery for 30-45 minutes and then reconnect. The on board computers might recognize the lights when they 'reboot' so to speak. If this doesn't work, you probably will have to go to the dealer and spend upwards of $100 to have the BCM reprogrammed. As for installing the lights first, I would advise to stick with the directions that come with the kit. Otherwise you may experience difficulty putting the push pin fasteners in. Either way you go, it gets a little tight under there when you are trying to mount the lamps.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado
I installed the fog lights (Not the wiring or switch) on my 05 Silvy. What I am wondering is why I need to do all this programming stuff. Am I wrong in thinking that I can just hook these lights up to a power source, buy some sort of an on/off switch and drive on? I could care less about the OEM switch for the inside. I have hooked up alot of other fog lights in that maner before. Are these lights different?

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado
If you don't want to use the factory stuff and run your own switch/relay you don't have to reprogram chit. I did mine the factory way just because I felt like it.

Relay??? I have never done anything like this on my new truck. Where does the relay go? What does it do? Where do I get one? How much are they? You can answer as many of those as you want.

The '06 air dam is the black one, previous years are the grey. The fog light kit is pretty easy to install.
