Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

I installed the factory EOM kit, and it isn't working!!! The LED on the FOG switch is on.... I am pretty sure I followed the instructions exactly, and connected the harness to D6 as indicated in text instead of what the diagram showed.

Has anyone had this problem? Do I need to have BCM reprogrammed? It seems that nobody out there had to do that.....

Some guys have had to have their BCMs reprogrammed after installing the fog light kits. It seems to be a coin toss

Not sure about that

Have you tried switching the wires that you mentioned?

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

I now have the lights working, a couple of questions for 03 Silverado fogs:
1) Should there be any light indication in dash when fogs are on, or only the LED on switch?
2) Why does the FOG lights go off, or unable to come on during HIGH Beam activation?

1. The only light is on the button it self.

2. Read this thread...it tells you how to fix that.

If I remember the wiring diagram correctly, the power for the LED comes off the relay. One would assume if you can make the LED turn on and off with the fog lamp switch, then everything is OK up to the relay (meaning your BCM is programmed correctly)

If that's the case, that would mean one of 2 things. Either you didn't put the wire from the harness in the correct location, or you didn't get a good ground connection.

I remember with mine I didn't want to bother having to drill a hole in the frame for the ground, so I used a small bolt next to the air filter. The first time I tried my lights they didn't work. I backed the bolt off, then cranked it back down, and bueno! Worked like a charm since then (well, until I speared the RH lamp a week ago)

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

This post should be saved forever to help out folks that have trouble with the factory fog kit directions. The guy who took photos to show the correct locations for the relay and for the fog lamp harness to plug into the headlamp harness should get a medal! It is a great write up and a real help to people. Only wish I read it before doing the install. Now I have to go back and change the location of the harness( where it plugs into the headlamp harness ).

How in the world does the mfg of the vehicle, that also sells the factory fog light kit under their name as a factory accessory, screw up the directions or allow the errors to go unchanged for so long? I have seen posts dating back to 2003 and the directions STILL are incorrect. Just amazes me.

I spent the better part of the afternoon putting the kit into my 05 Silverado and they don't work. I have a bad back and I am not happy after crawling around on the cold tar doing this only to have it not work because the directions are wrong. I am sure I know why though. I plugged the fog light harness into the spot the diagram calls for( A4 )instead of D6.

Never really put it together that they tell you one spot in the written directions but show a different one in the diagram until I was reading posts trying to find out why nothing works. Also, the fuse panel diagram is not even close. Not by a long shot. At least on my panel there was only one slot open for a relay like this so it was a no brainer but still.

Anyway, got dark right about the time I buttoned everything up. Had it timed perfect so I could finish the install and then check them out in the dark. Unfortunately I now have to take the fuse panel out tomorrow and swap the harness location. Pain in the butt!

Anyway, a HUGE thank you to BOB T for the great post. You just saved me going to the dealer for a BCM relearn for $75 or having to pay them to figure out the harness was in the wrong slot.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

Here is some more info to go along with the great post by BOB T. IF when you get to your Headlight harness under the fuse panel you find 2 purple wires( 2 wires into one push in connector ) already in location D6 then you can stop with the kit wiring harness. Your truck is already pre-wired for Fog Lights.

Crawl under your truck right under each fog light and look up above it. You will see the Headlight wiring harness. On the driver's side the Fog Light harness is kind of intertwined with the washer pump harness but it curls back towards the radiator and is held in a clip, Just look for a small harness( same thickness as the one from the kit )coming out of the main Headlight harness and feel around to find the plug end held in the clip. Just unclip and pull down to the light. On the passenger side it is easy to see. It comes right out of the Headlight harness which is kind of the only thing there and curls back in towards the radiator. The plug is again held right by a clip and is slightly out of sight. This one is easy to find. Just unclip and pull down to the light.

Actually, I strongly suggest people check to see if they have the factory wiring BEFORE messing with the underhood fuse panel and such. You have to pull the cover off to put the relay in but no need of undoing the fender brace and pulling everything apart to get to the bottom of the fuse panel if the truck is already pre-wired.

Man it would have saved me a TON of time and hassle if I had know this at the beginning or had a wiring diagram.

Seriously man. Thank you. I did a similar write up for the 3rd generation Dodge Rams that was saved on the HEMI truck club site when I was still driving Dodges( probably still there helping people out the way yours is ).

For some reason these factory directions always stink. I have to say though that these GM Fog Light kit directions are the worst I have ever seen or tried to follow. Usually it is just very complicated and confusing. These actually are wrong.

Re: Installing factory fog lights, '04 silverado

First I would like to say that Bob T did a great job with the instructions.

I wish I had read them before I purchased all the parts separately and then purchased the entire kit. I have the parts for sale now on ebay.

Stuff I've learned along the way:

Thanks.

directions were great, I enjoyed the hint of sarcasm, sounds like something that should have been on the Red and Green show.

Does this apply to the 07 classic or the 07 new body style?

The harness that came with the kit goes from the fuse box to the lights. The only other harness is the connector to the (existing) cargo light. The fog light switch box contains both a new cargo light switch and the fog light switch; plugs in place of the old cargo light switch. This switch stuff was pre-wired; see the pics in the first article.
