Re: disc brake swap

i'm jsut now getting on this wagon and will be doin it up.

they are floating calipers and i would use flex lines. made my decision to use s-10 calipers easier (dont need e-brakes)

i am debating the kore brackets, they look beefier..

and the thinner pads makes sense also, you could either keep a close eye on them or jsut use a spacer but id be carefull welding to a pad, dont want to heat up the pad material too much.

my concern is if a prop valve is needed with 98 abs electronics

Re: disc brake swap

I am working on modification of proportining and metering valves (combination valve) to adjust front/rear brake biase.

But I need some input, my truck is '99 Tahoe 2WD, 4Dr, can some brake expert here tell me why the combination valve near ABS pump only has ONE hex-head bolt on its end, the other end is flat. So, it looks like that the combination valve only has one function, either proportining OR metering.

Can some one chime in for this matter??

Re: disc brake swap

I'm working on a setup for my 99 4x4 using the calipers and rotors from a 2002 Tahoe. It was relatively simple and I am using the stock brackets from the 2002.
I have it all installed, once I get some lines I'll put in the rear end I installed it on.

Re: disc brake swap

here is a copy of my e-mail to kore along with there response
I was thinking about your kit
KORE3 REAR CALIPER BRACKET KIT: GM 2WD TRUCK/SUV, 88-00 W/10" DRUMS

I was wondering about brake lines and e brake cables, where do i get them and what modle do i get them off of.
Also my truck is rear wheel anti lock so will i be able to do this or will i need to remove the abs also does the stock master cylinder work or does it need to be changed as well?Your stock master cylinder will work well with this system however you may find that an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear system allows you to tune in the brake balance better than the stock balance. It depends a lot on how your truck is setup with respect to its suspension, tires, etc., but we do carry the adjustable proportioning valves for $50.00.

The rear ABS on your truck is fine and our kit will not effect how it works.

We sell FlexKORE braided stainless brake hose kits to go from the calipers to the axle hardlines for $57.50 which include the banjo bolts, crush washers, clips, and brackets you'll need to mount them. The hoses are 12" long and will require that you modify or replace your existing hardlines on the axle housing to mate up with the flexible hoses.

Your stock parking brake cables should attach directly to the Cadillac calipers so long as you buy calipers with all of the parking brake hardware.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Regards,
Tobin Knighton

Re: disc brake swap

I am seeing a lot of good questions on here, I suggest we all e-mail kore with the questions they can answer then post the question and response on here because there seems to be a lot of the same question or people asking questions better answered by them

Re: disc brake swap

My wonder is if using the speedway brackets if you have to add an area of metal and then tap it for the slide bolts of the caliper to bolt onto it?

it looks like the kore3 brackets are already setup

Re: disc brake swap

no, the threaded part is on the caliper that the slide bolts thread into. No need for threads on teh bracket.

Re: disc brake swap

Will post that soon. But I need some input about '99 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/... proportioning valve now.

Why does that valve have no metering function?

Re: disc brake swap

I finally got around to doing this last week. Im glad someone found out how to do this because I had been wanting to, but not for $500-$700 like most kits ive seen.

This mod was worth every penny! The only complaint I have is the rotor needs to be slightly bigger to get full contact on the s10 pads. I still might look into a proportioning valve. The rear doesnt lock up but id like for the front to do about 60% of the braking, I think right now the front & rear are each doing 50%.

Re: disc brake swap

So has anyone came up with a parts list with part numbers or the exact years the parts need to come off of or links to the parts?

So is there a rotor that doesn't require any mods to make it work? If not do I just need to drill out the 5 holes in the rotor to the size of the studs on my rearend?

Which bracket do you guys like best?

Do I need different e-brake and brake lines like was stated in the 1st post?

Anyone ever find out if a proportioning valve is needed.

I'm looking to doing this to my 94 and using the caddy calipers.
This is great, I was fixing to get all new stuff for my drum brakes, so I found this thread just in time!

Re: disc brake swap

I agree with tucks20s I would really like a simple breakdown of parts based off of using the impala rear rotors and S10 front calipers.
