You'll need to put on some spring saddles since the caprice was coils. Also that rearend is more narrow so you may have rubbing issues with the wheels.

it will work with the 10 bolt you have now, so why convert? maybe im lost.
either way, ill take pictures when I tear it down later on today. If anybody can think of a rotor that has a 5x5 lug pattern with 14mm holes for studs, this swap would be all sorts of easier. I spent a good amount of time with the parts guy... but i was somewhat forced to go with the impala SS. Anybody know of any trucks that use a 5x127 with discs on the rear?

Re: disc brake swap
i was asking because it would have been easier to swap the whole rear end than having to add a posi unit, adjust lash, and then convert mine to disk. oh well, i guess ile have to go and find a rear end off a truck with posi and 3.42 gears to make life easier. i just remembered the impala axles also have that link in the middle of it that pivots also. does anyone know how to tell if a rearend has posi and what gears it has without taking it apart? like are there any numbers to look for outside?

Re: disc brake swap
thanks man. should make life easier for a few people. if the diameter of the jeep rotor is the same as the impala SS one.. its an ideal canidate for this swap.

Low88,
Have you seen anything concerning 14 bolt sf 6 lug disk brake conversions? I have a 14 bolt sf, but would ideally like to find 5 lug 454ss axles, but i doubt that will happen. Superior axles was less than friendly on the phone about making 14 bolt sf axles with a 5 lug pattern.
I may always end up drilling out old studs, and pressing new ones in on a 5x pattern. Any input? Thanks, and the last thing i wanna do is steal the thread, just thinking outloud.

this should help you.
Im suprised at the reaction im getting with this mod...I am not the first to do this on an FSC by any means... I would like to think im the first to do it on a 2WD 1500 without buying a kit, but i doubt it.
edit:
nevermind... looks like mccustomize beat me too it.

you are not the first doing this mod thats for sure .. but you're the only one that put it like an inexpensive and easy mod.. giving some more info that all the other threads i have read about it ..
i got some other questions the impala rotors the only mod you need is to make the hole for the lugs bigger ?...
well im a candidate for the next guinea pig on this mod. i will hit the junkyards tomorrow any other part i have to look for ?

Re: disc brake swap
i know im not the first to do a pieced together disc swap. I just havent seen any other bagged/lowered 2WD FSC with rear discs that didnt come from a kit yet, im sure its been done many times, just not posted on the internet.
look got the mechanical E-brake calipers on the rear of 79-85 caddys.
And yes, that was the only mod to the rotors.
To make your life easier, just tell the parts guy you want rear rotors off of a 1995 Impala SS. Not many places seem to have them in stock, I spent the better half of the day doing this.
Sorry, didnt get to take pics today... i spend the rest of the day welding my cab floor.

Re: disc brake swap
i can get the rotors out of a impala ss from the junkyard and resurface them , the machine shop will need to made the holes anyway
is this the correct part number for the caliper plates ?
91641009 '78-UP GM METRIC CALIPER BRACKET
btw calipers are out of the rear of the caddy but what model ? :P just make sure what to look for

Re: disc brake swap
Nice work and thanks for the info Low88!
Hey cordatta, I know you said you did'nt need a proportioning valve, but does it feel the same as far as bais....you know, when you stomp on them does the @ss end get out fo line or does it stay straight like stock? Also, how does the E-brake work? Does it hold and is it adjustible like stock?
BTW, either of you think about dust shields for the backside? Is there even room for them?
Thanks in advance.

Re: disc brake swap
ckta - i can stand on the pedal and the truck will stay perfectly straight and this was from about 60mph. i will tell you that the pedal feels a little different. i think that i have an air bubble in the brake line. with the caddy calipers you have to bleed them off of the brackets to get all of the air out. i want to do this considering i bled with the calipers on the brackets. however, it stops great as is.
as far as the parking brake mine is hooked up right now but it does not stop the truck. i need to look at doing some adjustment on the cables to get them to lock the rotors.
low88 - i used rotors from TSM Mfg b/c i couldnt find a rotor that was 1" thick.
just fyi for everyone that uses caddy calipers, setting the parking brake keeps the caliper in constant adjustment!
