Re: disc brake swap

Yup, might need to remove the residual pressure valves in your master cyl if they put those in these days.

Re: disc brake swap

FWD or RWD? RWD, there are none, they weren't doing discs anymore in RWD then. FWD was.

I have the 76-78 E-Body (Eldo, big car) backing plates and calipers (probably need rebuilt), which are a bolt on for the car 10 bolt axles (and likely for trucks too with some minor mods around the wheel bearing). These are similar, just a little more HD than the 79-81 F-Body backing plates.

Make me an offer, I don't plan on using them.

Re: disc brake swap

What did you find? 86 no RWD cads had discs. They all had 11" x 2" drums.

Re: disc brake swap

Still not sure what you are looking for calipers for, GM stopped the rear disc setup on the Cadillacs (RWD) in the 1979 model year. If you are finding calipers, you are getting them from a FWD car like an Eldo/Rivi/Toro, which by the way, ARE the same ones used on the 79-81 Firebirds with the disc brake option.

In comparisson, the 76-79 B/D body rear discs are 5x5 drilled rotors with a larger caliper (more like a front caliper size wise) and beefier backing plates. I wouldn't use the 79-85 stuff, but it is for sure easier to find.

I'm biting the bullet today and getting a re-man'd L/R caliper. I'm tired of pumping the brakes so the l/r caliper piston extends all the way. doing the e-brake ratchet thing don't work on the one I have.

Here's a good link I found. This guy makes kits pretty cheap for all years.

Re: disc brake swap

so if I read this right, I can get the Kore3 brackets, then i just ned to find calipers and 6-lug rotors? anybody done this on a 4wd with 6-lug wheels yet? I'd like to convert my drums to discs using off the shelf parts. I'm thinking I just need rotors from say, a 2002-04 chevy truck, and calipers from the same truck? or do I need Caddy calipers? shed some light on this for me please.

Re: disc brake swap

This is the best place I've found. If they are posted already sorry, didn't read back through the whole post. They have all the brackets, calipers, drive shaft e-brakes, and great info.

Re: disc brake swap

Has anyone dealt with the King Tek Performance kit on Ebay? Comes with all the parts to do a 88-98 1500 disc swap for $480. $600 with matching front rotors drilled and slotted.

Re: disc brake swap

I bought the King Tek brackets off ebay & pieced the other parts. The brackets bolted right on. The cadi calipers are just a shade off, they aren't mounted quite deep enough. I have everything fitted. But I haven't bolted on the rear-end yet. BTW I have a 92 2wd and swapping in a 92 4wd rear (6-lug). I used the 87-89? (don't remember the year) 4wd front rotors. Read back thru the thread for the correct year if you have a 6-lug rear. 5-lug I think you will use an impala ss rotor. Good Luck!

Re: disc brake swap

yes, I believe he says within the first 5 pages that if you're in need of a 6 lug disc setup, use the front setup off your model. I think. Because thats what I came in looking for haha

Re: disc brake swap

So i have been tryin to read all of this but i have not seen anything that answers all of my questions. I have a 6 lug 14bolt that i am installing in my 1990 1/2 ton. also have a set of extra front calipers, pads and rotors from my 90. can i use the backing plate off of the rear of an 02 or 03 model 10 bolt to mount the calipers? or is the kore3 large enough to mount my calipers. i read that it mounts gm small calipers, not sure if this is considered small or not.

Your 90 front calipers will not work with the backing plates from an 02-03 10 bolt rear disc. The calipers are way different.

The factory 10 bolt rear disc setup comes in 2 flavors.
1) Single piston caliper & 12.8" rotor.
2) Dual piston caliper & 13" rotor.
