Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
thanks for the writeup and part number. I hated that antenna. simple and adds that subtle touch.

Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
I would imagine there is a different part # for an 08. Go look at an 08 esky and see if it has the same panel, and then order for that vehicle... or see if they have a panel for a "radio delete" truck.

Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
I did mine a couple of weeks ago, just used 3 zip ties, and used black dum dum in cover hole. I lost some am recept, but don't use am very much. FM is pretty much the same, I guess it just depends on where you live. I you lived up in Alaska you probably wouldn't get any recept. I live in the city, so now problem.

No, they are not the same. I ordered an '07 esky cowl corner. Here they are side by side. Mine on the left...esky on the right.
The esky part has the outline of the hole that is in our part. I used my dremel and cut that piece out and used it as a plug on my cowl corner. Also, on the GMT-900s, the antenna cable is shorter and the hood hinge is in the way. So, I mounted the antenna under the wiper cowl with some zip ties. Reception was crap, so I used a piece of wire with some connectors to ground the antenna base. Reception is pretty good and I think my "plug" that I made doesn't look bad. Even the texture matches.
I don't remember the part number off hand, but you can use the site that I posted in the first post and then drill down through their part menu, or just call them up. I think the part for the GMT-900s was only about $8...cheap enough for me to justify hacking it up.

Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
I just tried this, and didnt have any reception at all, so I undid the whole l-bracket and put it back up in the stock position.
any word if the inline amp has helped? i would think that if you amplify no signal you would get extra nothing ---at least thats how it works in the home a/v field.

Ditto.
Looks clean too
Did this today after my buddy down the road had his broken off.
After helping him tear his truck apart trying to find where the antenna wire went behind the dash i did this to prevent myself from having to do the same.
Besides i listen to Sirius and never use FM anyway.

Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
Just did this today. Thanks for the good idea.
For anyone needing an L bracket. I just found a scrap piece of aluminum, cut into a 1x2" piece and bent it and it worked perfect. No need to actual buy a bracket unless you can't find anything around the house that will work.
I did not notice any loss in reception with this either. Thanks!

Re: Cheap way to shave a NBS antenna!
Why not just unbolt the antenna mount flip it upside down then bolt it back in and screw the antenna back in from underneath. Works like a charm and no need for L brackets or zip ties. Its a tight fit but there should be enough slack to do this. I have done this on two 05 gmc rc and had no problem with either. I will say try to use the stock antenna it gets the best reception when mounted upside down.
