Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

every time ive seen a resistor fail, its burned the connector too. take a look at both before you go buying parts, and more than likely youll be replacing both.

Btw, a 7mm and a 5.5mm are technically the sizes of the bolts (but 9/32 & 7/32 work just as well).

Yeah I know, but it was what I reached for fist. Should have clarified that.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

Terrific post. Have a 1999 GMC Sierra. I heard about the possibility of a faulty resistor. Didn't have a clue where it was located. Pictures were worth a thousand words.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

I've got a question about the resistor. I need to replace mine in a 05 Silverado but I have one main issue. The wires going in to the resistor are exposed. It looks like they got hot and burnt through their covers. I was wanting to know how I would replace those wires or if I should have a professional perform the job. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

FYI for those 04 and up... early 04's must use the old style resistor. My 2004 RCSB was only working on high after I unplugged the negative battery terminal. I then removed the resistor and wiped the dust off it and it worked. My wires weren't burned and the resistor didn't look as bad in these pics, but it is definately on its way out.

Excellent.. Found this info by doing a Google search and I was able to do the replacement in under 30 minutes and I am by no means a mechanic. I am now registered here. Thank you.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

Great post gentlemen. I took mine in a few months ago and the dealer wanted over $100 just for the pigtal connector. I deferred until now as 1-4 were working with just #5 not working. While in Detroit this weekend all but #4 stopped working. Googled around online and came across this thread. Just ordered pigtail and resistor combo for $72. Thanks again!!!

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

Just wanted to give a thanks for this post. Took me about 15 minutes to swap it out. Mine was working on only the highest setting, all or nothing! Now, works smooth on all 5 settings.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

I have an 2002 with no center console and just bought the resister at O' Reillys. Part #RU1064. I wasn't sure if it would work but it popped right in and seemed to fix the problem.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

Probably one of the more useful topics ive seen.

Well... 06 Silvy and the blower was only working on 1-4 up to a few days ago. Then 4 went. This morning at about 2am all of it went... I work nights... it was about 22. So from then to 6 I had to freeze it out in my truck. So I figured while im waiting on the auto parts store to open this would be a great time to see what I could find on

Thanks for the info!

Wade

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

just went to the parts store and bought a new one with the red/black wires for $23.49

thanks to this thread, it took 10 minutes from the time I opened to the door, till I switched the key on to make sure it worked.

step 3 wasnt necessary on my '02 truck for some reason.

Glad to know this is still helping people. Nice to be able to pay back a bit of what I've gotten out of the site.

Re: How To: NBS Blower Motor Resistor Replacement

I have an 05 Silverado 2500HD Duramax Crew

When using the AC my blower works fine on all speeds but on ocasion it will blow hot air our the drivers side vents, it remains cold on the passenger side vents. The couple of times it has happened it starts working properly after the truck has been shut down and restarted shortly after.

Does this sound like a resistor problem?

I have removed the resistor and looked at the harness, no hot spots at all. All appears fine?

Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, that sounds like a blend door motor problem to me. Does it work correctly *most* of the time? If so look under the dash until you can find the motor that moves when you adjust the d/s temp control, that will be the driver side blend door. When it doesn't work you are going to have to watch the motor while you move the temp control and see if it moves or not, I would have to guess that the actuator is bad, it may be possible to switch teh passenger and driver side actuators and see if the problem moves to the passenger side to verify the problem is the actuator. Otherwise with an intermittent (or however it is spelt) problem like that I don't know how to verify the problem component without just replacing it, and I don't remember those being all that cheap.

heres a pic of the 2 different ones, the one on the right is for non-console trucks, notice the 2 extra mounting holes, why they are there im not sure cause theres still only 2 bolts holding it in, stupid if you ask me
You are correct. Our dealer was closed so went to our local O'Reillys and they had the console one for $25 but the one for non-console was $50 which is weird. How much was the dealer one?
