Re: disc brake swap
To all that have replied to this thread and kept it going, excellent work. This whole site rocks! One question to add, are there any e-brake calipers that I can use that I don't have to step the e-brake in everytime like with the caddy calipers?

Re: disc brake swap
I wouldn't say every time with the caddys. If you set it once every few weeks, you should be fine. I am going to be working on a driveline E-brake sooner or later, once my truck is on the road.

Re: disc brake swap
Look under some of the offroad specialty places like highangle driveline, or JB conversions, etc for your driveline ebrakes. I am going to go to one on my daily SAS eventually.
...as for the caddy ebrake calipers..I don't especially like mine cause with large tires they just don't hold period. On level ground in gear at idle, the truck will carry on still. Though I am running a 37" tire with 5.13's......but still not impressed for what they are worth.

Re: disc brake swap
Only problem is, that does you no good what so ever in a case where and if you lose hydrolic usage (brake line/hose breaks etc.) That is why the emergency brake is mechanical still. Here is is illegal to use a switch like that or a line lock for an emergency brake. Will fail a safety inspection.

Re: disc brake swap
I read this and didnt see a 8 lug setup..maybe i missed it?
I got a 75 c-20 3/4 ton could i use the front rotor for the back and use the caddy caliper? 1975 3/4 c-20 -- sadly sold 1997 1500 silverado- jet stage 2 performance chip, jet air sensor thingy, edlebrock headers, catback exhaust. His name is rumblebutt Loud pipes save lives |

Re: disc brake swap
If you have a 3/4 ton, I would assume that you have a 14 bolt full floater in the rear. You can use the 3/4 ton discs in the rear, buy your caliper conversion bracketry, and install the calipers off of the same version in the rear. If you need/want ebrake, then yes...caddy calipers.

Re: disc brake swap
That finally the first I hasve seen with a REASONABLE price, most places like SSB are stupid high price, which is the reason I look at the OEM solutions....

Re: disc brake swap
You guys might try this guy. I bought brackets from him for use with the 94-96 Impala SS calipers/rotors. He is now redying a kit for use with the Camaro calipers which have an ebrake.

Re: disc brake swap
Doing the drum to disc swap on my old 2wd Blazer made a world of difference! It got even better after I got the adjustable proportioning valve in the system.

Re: disc brake swap
I would LOVE to do a disc swap on my 99 K2500 Burb....Are all NBS 2500/3500 SRW discs with the 10.5 FF?
It has decent brakes now, the massive rear drums are on there now. But anything to improve it is worth it, these trucks need all the braking we can get.... The 1500's especially, the bigger brakes on the 2500 is one of the reasons we opted to go 3/4 ton in the first place, depsite the lousy fuel economy. It isn't worth it if you can't stop....

Re: disc brake swap
Has anyone tried using the whole setup from an impala? Is there a difference in axle flange or something that would prevent you from using the e-brake?

Get a hold of Bill Harper, aka, navylifer and talk to him, he would know.
Let him know I sent you, he and I have talked on it before, it might jog his memory....
