Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
Your question was at what RPM does it shift, 2000?
My answer was Yes, and the speed is like 40 to 45 mph. So the yes is 2000

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
First of all, you can get your truck to shift into OD anywhere from 35 to 70 mph, it only depends on how heavy your foot is at the time. Second, that tells me nothing and wasn't my question. My question as i stated before was how fast in OD, meaning after you shift into OD, are you going once you speed up to 2k rpm. It should be ranging from 60 to 70, depending on gear ratio. I only wanted to check out other peoples gear ratios, Z71s & non-Z71, to see what speed the 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10 are @2k rpm. And therefore figure out what my gear ratio is, if it's actually as the code states, a GT5 (4.10). So anyone with some info about your halfton 4x4, it would be appreciated.

D&)# Rear End!
I've got a '95 K1500 w/ the 10 bolt & 373's. I replaced the rear end at 73,000 miles (3 years ago), and it just grenaded again last night. I hoped it'd last more than 33,000 miles.

I don't want to keep putting the same crap in there and having it go to hell. Who can afford that?!!?

My question is: What can I put in there instead? Did the light-duty (6 lug) 2500's use heavier gears? Is there a 14 bolt, 6 lug axle? I've never seen one. HELP!

Thanks gang,

Jason

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
I have a 1994 suburban changed from 3.42 to 3.73 gears. Does anyone know how to change the D.R.A.C. buffer myself? I have changed the ECM parameters but the speedo is still off. The 3X3" box (DRAC) behind the glovebox needs to be corrected. Any help is appreciated.

Re: D&)# Rear End!
Did you replace those gears yourself or have it done? Most falures are due to improper pinion shaft pre-load. If you go with a Richmond HD gearset, weld the axle tubes to the housing, use a C-clip eliminator kit, custom aloy axles, use a bearing support cover or billet bearing caps (these caps will need to be line bored), you will not have this proiblem again. I have a 7.5" 4.56 drag truck with a 525 HP & 580 ft/lb 406 and a 700-R4 tranny.

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
This is my first post, so be easy on me if I make a mistake. I am working on a '01 Silverado w/ GT5 & G80 codes. Dealer print-out says 4:10 with
detroit Locker. Take it apart and find the governor with broken teeth, spider gears chewed to pieces. Purchase replacement diff & pinion (Eaton) from local differential shop. ($925.00) Go to press pinion bearings onto shaft with the pinion carrier. Yolk WILL NOT fit onto new shaft. Take everything apart to see where I goofed. Start checking everything with a micrometer. It all checks out. Re-assemble. Same thing. Dis-assmble. Look. Nothing. Re-assemble old shaft w/ old bearings and carrier. Works. Third time I dis-assemble new shaft and bearing notice witness marks on the new shaft. Forward bearing is not seating down entirely when the carrier begins to get a little stiff to turn. All bearing & race #s match. Anyone have a diagram available anywhere. I have already searched the threads and found none. Doesn't mean they are not there, I just didn't find them. Any help or advice any where???!!!

Re: D&)# Rear End!
I am going to pick up mine in a few min. 1994 K2500 14 bolt w/6 lug. They are supposedly a drop in. I'll find out the hard way tomorrow. Anyone who was done this swap, please post and let me know if I am in for a headache. I have a 96 K1500 Suburban now with a 8.5". I am putting in a 1994 K2500 9.5".

I found a 9.5" in Appleton, WI for $375. 9.5's seem cheaper than 8.5's. They have another there, stock #P838. The one I got is P1111. So if you see it still on the net, it has been claimed!

The costs of the 14 bolt 9.5" seem cheaper than the 8.5", but G80's are not as common. I'll sacrifice as long as it stays intact.

Main difference besides a little more pep is that you can tow more easily in overdrive with 3.73's. 3.42 will cause the trans to tend to hunt a little more, heating things up.

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
I drove a 54K mile 98 Yukon w/3.42's and my 220K mile 96 Suburban with 3.73's. the Sub is far faster and feels much more lively. And there isn't much of a mileage difference between the 2 trucks. So far in my experience, Suburbans have got better mileage than Tahoe/Yukons (Vortec 350 powered), with same gearing. Makes no sense if you ask me. Aerodynamics off the back end? Longer helps smooth airflow?? I know, long shot....

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
prob the only reason yer locking diff doesnt work is because you maybe went thru a curve and got on it hard and lit up the inside wheel.atleast thats what happen in my transam.but the reason that happens is because GM used Auburn diffs through the early years then changed to the torson t2 in the latter 01 yrs.the auburn is a cone clutch system and once it doesnt do its job and you end up burning one tire it over heats the cone and never works right again until you rebuild it,the torsen t2 is a torque sensing unit and has a gear system, much better,it never wears out. when a tire starts spinning within a milisecond it kicks out the two gears in the case and locks the two axles.

Re: Rear End Ratio RPO Codes Here
RPO GU2 is 2.73's. Yup just about anything you put in there will help!

3.73's would really wake up that 4.3L.
