Re: Rain leaking into cab
Well ...here is the final answer. ..
After lots of deliberation, and trial and answer...here is where the dreaded leak comes from. I tell you all, this is the final straw. It has cost me a few hundred dollars, so maaybe I can save you all a bunch of money
..Under the hood hinge, and fender mount, there is a body seal, with factory seam sealer with where you, and me cannot see. I had my hood removed, and my fender removed, to find a hole in the seam ealer. It can be a real problem to see, as all of these parts cover the problem area, without being removed. You cannot see the leaking area. I took my truck to the body shop, and they removed the forementioned parts only to see the mising seam seal. It drys, and cracks, and falls apart...it causes a mystery leak...it sucks,,,,I spent a small fortune to find it, but I am now telling you, all of my friends, of what we all have found..this is the leak.I tell you this has been the nightmare of all times, it has been a real thorn in my side. BUT IT HAS ALL BEEN FIXED...
DO THIS, AND YOU WILL FIND YOU HAVE NO MORE LEAK
My other repairs took care of all of the small leaks, due to the poor engineering of GM...but this was the final fix

Re: Rain leaking into cab
I knew it had to be something like that. Can you get to that area just by removing the fender?

Did you try sealing the screw holes first?

Re: Rain leaking into cab
Just Had A Big T-storm Here In K.c. My Truck Was Parked Uphill And No Leak!!! In My Case The Seam Sealer Around The Block Off Plate Over The Fresh Air Vent Had A Gap In It. I Re-seamsealed It, Shot Some Paint On It, And Re Installed The Cowl Vent.
LOOKS LIKE MY FIX WAS THE SAME AS JOHNNYMAG3'S. SHOULD HAVE READ THE NEW POSTS BEFORE I POSTED

After you've seen where the seam sealer fails, is there a way to divert water from getting to that area? Did you take any pictures of the failing area? If not can you take a side view of a truck with its fender on and draw a line where the seam would be if the fender was removed?

Wink Re: Rain leaking into cab
Ok.I hope this helps, as I have spent alot of time, and almost a thousand dollars to deal with this problem...here is all I know...so read it a few times if you have too,,,
There is a seal around the block off plate as forementioned above the blower motor that needs to be adressed, on the passenger side only.under the black plastic cowl cover trim..it leaks directly into the cab.
..then there is a whole lot of body and seam sealer under the hood, and both fenders, near the top of the cowl area...these are the number one cause of the dreaded leaks, in the trucks we all love...1988-1998...the nice years..
Under the hood hinge area where it swivels at the fender area, if you look in with a light , you can see the body seam, and the sealer...this fails all too often, along with the seam seal under the plastic cowl trim, under the windshield.....please email me for more concerns...I have a dry truck... .1,000 dollars later

Glad you found your leak but that doesnt mean every truck is going to leak in the same place.

Re: Rain leaking into cab
Peeps may want to seal the cowl hood screws first. If that takes care of the leak, sweet, it's free! If it doesn't, it's still free!

Re: Rain leaking into cab
I have the same problem with water leaking into my blower fan. I got a tube of black RTV sealant from NAPA & a caulking gun today, plan to tackle this after work in the morning since it isn't supposed to rain for a few days. I have a car wash at work (like a powerful shower) and it seems to getting progressively worse. This morning I could hear the fan swishing the water & it ran out of the bottom of the fan pretty good. Was a few drops before. Is there any special seam I should be looking for or just seal everything I can find? The water runs right out of the bottom of the fan onto my floor mats, looks like it may be coming from behind the fan as well. Many thanks for any help.

Re: Rain leaking into cab
Also how do you get the wipers off? Just use a screwdriver to unlatch the tab on the base?

Pull them up like you would to change the wiper blades and slide the little "clip" down by the stem....and they will pull right off.

The bent part slides away from the wiper base correct?

Not sure what you mean? At the base of the wiper arm (by the stem) there is a clip that you pull out about a 1/4" and then the arm slide off the stem shaft.

Yea, I think we are talking about the same thing. Sure I will figure it out. I guess I will just seal anything I think might need it and hope for the best. Thanks,

Re: Rain leaking into cab
Got the cowl off. Certainly no room to work, how did you guys get the sealer in there ? Using my finger is the only way I see right now. Can't see the far right because it is covered with a piece of the body. Any ideas would be appreciated.I am going to let it sit and warm up while I catch a little sleep. So bring on the ideas.

CKTA- we were talking about the same thing. Came off slick.

Thanks, Check in later. Painting my wiper arms while they are off.
