Really need help, what size driveshaft will fit?
Well I just got back from a LONG night wheeling. Long story short, I can't put the truck in park, and my drive shaft split into two pieces. Long story short, I was stuck for awhile and must have had a rock under my rear driveshaft. Anyway, wheeling later, it split in half, perfect cut in it. And oh yeah, on monday I need to drive 2.5 hours back to college.
So my question is, what size driveshaft will fit my truck? Its a 98 k1500 ECSB. I found a drive shaft out of a Rclb and a burban, but I don't know if these will fit? Help! |

Re: Really need help, what size driveshaft will fit?
Sorry, the only driveshaft that will fit is one from another extended cab short box. Extended-cab, 6.5-foot bed models had a 141.5-inch wheelbase.
RCLB trucks and suburbans both had a 131.5-inch wheelbase. ![]() 88 GMC K1500, RCSS/5.7L/700R4/NP241/D44/14SF G80, 168k. 9" SAS, D44 on 35's 02 GMC K1500, RCSS/4.8L/4L60E/NP261/IFS/10, 16k. Sierra HT package: 1 of 234 Trucks. |

This sucks. I found one from a burban, tahoe, rclb, and rcsb. I guess I'm heading out to a junkyard

Re: Really need help, what size driveshaft will fit?
If it split relatively clean see if you can get it welded, to get you home.
They may even be able to take out a section an do two welds. Just need to find a shop that will do it. But a lot of engine tranny swaps have two drive shafts or a shortened shaft. They just get cut and welded together. ![]() 96 Silverado ECSB, 350, 4L60E, 3.42 G80 89 Camaro, 5 speed, 3.08 LS 49 F-1, flathead 6, 4 speed, 2wd, unknown rear end. Old rust bucket. |

Re: Really need help, what size driveshaft will fit?
your gonna have to measure it to found out(result might be faster) unless somebody has actually swapped one.

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy with the measurments. Until then I need to know whether I should keep searching junkyards and stuff or if it will work.

Re: Really need help, what size driveshaft will fit?
I know that an OBS RCSB driveshaft is 2" shorter than a NBS RCSB, I'm running one in my 88 after I lifted it.
I researched again. The driveshaft in your truck should be 60.5" weld to weld, NBS rear driveshafts are 63.5" weld to weld. This won't work unless your truck has well over 8" of lift in the rear. Your wheelbase as stated is 141.5" and a NBS is 143.5". Sorry you are going to have to find one for your truck or get it reparied. ![]() 88 GMC K1500, RCSS/5.7L/700R4/NP241/D44/14SF G80, 168k. 9" SAS, D44 on 35's 02 GMC K1500, RCSS/4.8L/4L60E/NP261/IFS/10, 16k.
