Chevy Lean **updated 9/19/06**

I took my truck to the local Chevy dealer and he said his tech measured the lean and came up with a half inch which is in specs. I have been a carpenter foreman for the last 24 years and I do believe I know how to read a tape measure. And yes the spot where the rear tires were sitting was level, I poured the floor. I have read where you should give the truck at lease 3000 miles to break in the suspension. If after that, the truck still leans, I will take it back to a different dealer.

If you don't want to mess with the dealer, just buy the $15 leaf spring spacer and fix it yourself.

You're gonna need the new u-bolts too, your factory ones won't have enough extra room.

I've got a 2002 Silverado that sits about 1" low on the left front. I've read all of the fixes, but does anyone know what causes the problem to start with?

i think most people attribute the problem to the extra weight on the drivers side

That is also why they are always out of alignment from the get go.

Does anyone notice a difference depending on the amount of fuel in the tank being that it is on the driver side?

The fuel does not affect the lean. I have tracked my heights and the empty vs. full affects both left and right side the same.

I just replaced both rear springs on my Silverado becauase the driver's side had broken the middle leaf right behind the spring pad, and it's still 1 1/4" lower on that side in the rear and about 1/2" lower on the driver's front. One of these days, I'll take it to a body shop and have them check out the frame.

If any of you guy's have your truck dropped it is easy to correct. I have a 3/5 drop on my 05 sierra (ground force) if you have adjustable rear shackles just set the passenger on the next lowest stting and it pulls the driver front up a bit and lowers the passenger rear a bit which actually makes everything even out. by pulling up the driver front it lowers the passenger front a bit and by lowering the passenger rear it pulls up the driver rear a bit. no driving issued whatsover.

i have an 03 GMC Sierra halfton, and i have the "chevy lean" problem. I had spacers put in, but the left side still looks a little lower. Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do???

Seems like every one of the trucks have this problem.

I believe I read somewhere that the dealer has 1/2"-3/4" front coil spacers to replace the original thin no-squeek pad under the bottom of the coil spring. Same for the rear leaf springs.
Any auto parts house spacer installed in-between the coils would probably affect the travel.
A good GM parts guy should be able to answer this.

My '03 1500 RCSB (with trailering package) height varies 1/2"-3/4" lower at the left rear with a full tank.
Low tank it's dead even at the rear wheel openings.

Advance Auto parts has a replacement spring that should help the front leaning problem. Part no. FCS20222S.

Just checked Advanced's website. The part number is now 60150 for the alternate spring from Moog.
