Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
if people want to post their vin # here on the board, i will run those #'s through GM at work to see if anyone has outstanding recalls and also give a little description of them
keep in mind, vin #'s over 10 yrs old may no longer be in gm's data base
sorry to say that i am not doing this anymore, but others who work at dealerships are carrying on this tradition... still post your vins
.

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
sorry---all i can do is run for recalls, in service dates, any warranty left through GM, things like that---i can not ck for damage/flood/accidents, things like that---
i was just thinking that some of the posts i have seen here, have sounded like recalls we have done in the past and just trying to help other members save money and time if possible

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
only recall on this vehicle was for replacement of tailgate cables--completed 06/17/2005 recall number was 04007
the recall i was thinking about covered 00-01 yukons and suburbs.....if you get a pump from GM, your pump will have updated wiring in it--you will need to get body side connector and splice it in to get it too work--dont forget, depending on dealership, electric fuel pumps have lifetime warranty---the recall was because of wiring getting too hot and then making bad connections at tank causing stalling with no restart to fuel guage reading very erratically
trucks have same set-up but they did not get recalled

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
you have recall #04007--tailgate straps replacement---should take dealer about 20 min. to replace and is free of charge--have your cables broken before? if so and you hace reciept from dealership where you bought replacements, you may be entitled to get that money back
as fas as what has been done to the vehicle, there has never been a warranty claim for repair filed with GM---sorry cant tell you anything else about service history

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
KOLTRAIN--either incorrect vin# or it is an older vehicle that has been deleted from GM's data base--which means no recall and maybe 12-15 yrs old
chrisk1500--i cant read e-mails and pm's at work---post it here on this thread so i can see it

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
most likely since it has nothing outstanding, it may have already been dropped--usually nothing before 92-93 can be viewed anymore---have ck'd several late 80"s and none are in system anymore and even a few other 91-92 models and only found one 92 model still in system

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
ill get my vin and edit my post but have you heard any definate answer on the 200 gmc/chevy 1500 fuel gauge intermittent problem..
it shows empty and while driving throw it in neutral and it pops back up but then later it goes back to empty.
I was thinking bad sending unit at the tank but someone said that its probably something behind the gauge cluster since throwing it in neutral fixes the problem

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
gohard and viz--ill ck in the am and post
as far as the guage working/not working putting in/out of gear i dont see what the relation could be--with the very few clusters we see give problems, it has been speedo issues of jumping around---the clusters are sealed units and nothing back there is moving around....if i had to guess i'd say it had to do with vibrations in the vehicle and more closely the wiring harness to the fuel tank which has been covered earlier in this thread-ask z71dook what he found when he pulled his fuel pump out of the tank//melted wire that got too hot due to loose connection--how many miles on the truck--if close to 100k, it would not be a bad idea to go ahead and get new pump assy from dealer and the new style harness and connector for the body side wiring harness and replace---seems like 100-120k is the magic number for fuel pumps---but get it from the dealer because it will have the new wiring and connector and the pump and you can buy the matching connector for body side

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
First, Thanks for doing this service. My son's truck has the tailgate cable recall and has had several notices sent, but he has not gone and done it yet. I sat down on it the other day, phone in one hand and beer in the other. both cables broke. Needless to say I busted my A$$!
Is it ever too late to go and get a recall done?

Re: Finding Out If Your Vehicle Has A Recall Is Very Easy
GoHard--shows invalid # or no data found--should still be able to pull up 97 model vins--please ck again
sokkernut--never too late--but it will only be done once to a vehicle--did it damage the tailgate when they broke--GM has also been fixing tailgate that suffered damage when the cables broke---ie hinges or even damage to outer shell maybe from hitting bumper--take the vehicle to the dealer and have them look it over and replace those cables
viz--still waiting for your vin#
