Yukon Starting Randomly
Ok... I have read many of the threads and I just wanted to see if anyone has something to help more.

My Yukon will randomly not start. For the past year, it will just not start. I have figured out if it does happen, I can set my ignition to "on" so my radio plays and sit for 10 minutes. The entire time my "security" light blinks. I read on here that this resets the security. After the light stops blinking, it starts right up. I have done it numerous times.

The other day something different happened. I stopped at the store and when I got back in my Yukon it cranked and cranked with no start. The fuel pump was not turning on and none of the security lights were on. I sat for 10 minutes anyways with the ignition "on" but this didn't work. I figured the fuel pump went out on me early and it was hot outside. Later that night I tried to start it on the trailer and it still wouldn't start. Today I finally took the Yukon off the trailer and when I got in it, it fired right up. I didnt do anything to it.

I replaced my fuel pump about 10 months ago. When I got the old one out, it still worked but I put the new one in anyways. I figured that was because my security issue. I have been bypassing the security when it won't let me start the Yukon. It happens every 2 months or so.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? I heard of the oil pressure switch is inline with the fuel pump power source. Could the oil pressure switch cause this?

Thanks!

Re: Yukon Starting Randomly
these random electrical problems are the worst.

all I can offer is to have the codes checked at gm, i know a lot of chevy gearheads would rather take a hit to the nuts before taking vehicle to gm service center.

But, they have the code scanner you need, it will probably pick right up on what wrong or at least the general area of the problem.

may save you time and money in the long run,

In todays world you, do not want your wife and kids caught out with a vehicle that will not start and you know that it has a problem.

What year is the Youkon? Could it be an issue with the security sensor in the key? If you have a spare key try that. I have heard othe rvehicle having the security feture in the key itself "wear out" and start giving them problems.

Re: Yukon Starting Randomly
Its a 1999 Yukon. The Yukon starts now with no problems so far. I removed the aftermarket alarm. I'm just gonna go back to the stock keyless entry for now. I have 2 GM keys and one basic key that was cut at a Fred Meyer. All will start the truck. When it wont start its probably always my key on my set.

Does a 1999 Yukon have a special key? When I looked up key blanks online, they don't mention anything about having a chip or special security feature. They are only $6.

I still think there is a relearn when you get a new key.

Re: Yukon Starting Randomly
Just an FYI, the security relearn actually takes four cycles of the key.

I have also read that the factory keys are "master" keys, but I've seen no resistor pellet like a lot of the 90's cars and the Vettes and Caddys have (at least in my OBS). I'm not sure what the deal is there.

To the OP: posting information like the model year would be helpful in these cases.
1999 Tahoe LS 2-Door 4x4 w/ 3.73 G80. Custom tune from Justin @ Black Bear and a Vette 1 - 2 servo.
14 Bolt SF Project Underway

Brakestands make for great aroma therapy.
