Changing trans fluid
The trans has been slipping for a bit on me so I decided to change the fluid. When I do, I was thinking of adding a deep pan and wanted to know if anyone has this pan and if its any good:
Derale Transmission Pan Coolers use the air flowing beneath the vehicle to reduce fluid temperatures from 20°F to 50°F. Features include heavy-gauge stamped steel construction, patented turbulator cooling tubes and a zinc plated finish. Increases fluid capacity. Replacement pan gasket included. Will not fit applications with OEM deep pans. Adds 2 QTs. 3.5" Depth, Tube Depth is at 2.38", Drain Plug Included. ![]()

Re: Changing trans fluid
why not use a trans cooler, or larger trans cooler if you already have an OEM one? I would be afraid of those pipes corroding out from water/salt/mud and causing a far worse issue.

Re: Changing trans fluid
That's what my thoughts were, but I wanted to check and see if anyone had tried it and what the outcome was.

Re: Changing trans fluid
I agree with the cooling lines on the pan...seems a little risky to me.
I bought a deep pan but it was from Trick Flow and held an additional 2 quarts and had external cooling fins cast into the pan. Looks great but the thing would NOT stop leaking for the longest time...took 4 gaskets before I finally got it just right. I already have a OEM trans cooler but our summers here hit 110-120 regularly so I figured extra cooling wouldn't hurt. ![]() 96 Chevy K1500 5.7 Z71 65K miles K&N FIPK Edelbrock Headers Flowmaster dual exhaust Hypertech programmer Royal Purple fluids MSD wires braided brake lines cross-drilled/slotted rotors heavy right foot

Re: Changing trans fluid
those are decent pans, and yes, they do help to keep the fluid temp down
