Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
my '89's hood has had the same issues for the past 10 years, i've adjusted the bumpers, oiled, greased, moved, bent, and tinkered with just about everything on there. it's just cantankerous. usually just a little upward bump with the side of my hand is all it takes...it's been doing it so long, it doesn't bother me anymore, i find myself hitting other people's hoods now just out of habit.

remove your pop up spring off the bottom of the hood, then compress it in a vise. now apply a little heat to it, and you'll have to start wacking your hood again.
seriously, when you have it open, reach up and grab the spring. give it a good tug and stretch it back out. over time, being compressed most of its life, it starts to lose its spring. stretching it back out helps out for a little while.

OBS Hood whacker here. Sorry, ya look cooler walkin up to the hood and givin it a lil tap. Tried the lube tricks but I really don't mind the whacking. Besides, when you have a dead battery, it gives you some level of satisfaction to smack yer truck for bein mean to ya.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
My hood opens up fine, it pops up when I pull the latch, but on my brother's 89 you have to pop the hood with your fist. It works every time but I should put some WD-40 on it.

WD40 isn't going to do any good, well at least not long-term. It's not really lubricant. Use white lithium grease and get it behind the pawl, not just on it. The part that needs lubing is where the pawl rubs against the latch, helps if you gently spread them apart with a screwdriver just enough to spray the lube in there.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
my truck did this and i had to set the stop on the line going to the latch. if you push down on the hood you can get it to pop. than look down on the latch and see if the stop is near the end of the line. if it is move it up some and see where that gets you. that what i did to fix my problem.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
You hood whackers should try using some penetrating oil to free up the latch assembly first then give her a shot of lithium grease once you get all the crude off.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
My hood opens fine until winter...then i have to start whacking. Last year my battery kept dying because i left stuff on, so i'd pop the hood but it wouldnt pop because its half frozen half in need of a whack. So i whacked it so hard it dented and chipped
I must say the whack is so much cooler then the hood just popping open.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
A couple of times my battery went dead, I'm freakin' glad the hood opens easily, because I couldn't pop my doors. Wedged the door a little then used my lockout tool to pull the hood latch and hook up the battery charger, jumper cables would work too, then I could pop my doors.

A great method if you don't mind repainting the whacked hood often.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
man... I've whacked mine pretty hard and never dented it. I've never even chipped the paint. You must have been pretty pissed to whack it that hard! All I ever have to do is just give it a light tap and it pops up every time. I've never seen an OBS with a hood dent from gettin whacked too hard come to think of it.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
When I whack, I use open palm.
Feel free to take that out of context.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
I thought hood whacking was standard practice. Ive lubed mine with white lith also with no luck.
Ive been doing it for 4 or 5 years now and still have no dents.
