Uh oh. The hood is stuck
I went to pop the hood today and instead of a thunk, I get nothing. I can hear the cable sliding on the latch end so I'm assuming it's just loose.
Now opening it with a screwdriver wouldn't be a problem except for the latch guard. So I was wondering if I could get some help with this
Thanks, Levi.

Good ol trusty coat hanger. make a little hook and hook the latch and pull to the right. (drivers side)

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
One of these would probably work.
:jk: My hood doesn't "pop" sometimes but if I go push up on it by hand it pops....I'm assuming you tried that?

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Mine does the same thing usually i just push down on it slightly and then it will either close or pop up. One way to fix it is unscrew the rubber stops at the edge of the front fenders just enough to put enough pressure to pop it up everytime the latch is opened.
I like the JOL personally too

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
give it a sold wack right on the front edge..mine used to stick and that would pop it open..if not, just get something in there to pull the cable through the grille..if you can see the cable pulling the latch, then youll have to pry it up or hit it like i said..should open

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
x2 on the hood whack. Once you get the technique it's second nature.
(once you get it open you can spray some white grease in there, but then you don't get to do the cool truck guy hood whack!)

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
The cool truck guy hood whack is what puts dents in the front of the hood, even on the OEM steel. If you have an aftermarket coke-can thin hood, you're lucky to not dent it just pushing it closed.
Try gently pushing up and down on the end of it while someone else pulls the cable. If you get it open, lube the inside of the latch with the white grease immediately, do not wait!

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Once you get it open, take a piece of welding rod or something else that is suitable and connect one end to the hood latch, right where the remote cable attaches. Hide the other end behind the driver's side headlights. Now, if your hood cable ever breaks, you can insert your fingers into the grille opening, fish out your emergency release, and voila!
Hey, even Ferrari's have emergency releases so why not your truck?

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Thanks guys. I already have a dent in the hood from someone else whacking it.
However, it seems that the cable is floating around loose. Likely from me not connecting it right when I put the hood back on. I'll try the wire trick cause I couldn't get at it with a screwdriver.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Yeah the hood whack works for me too, but usually all I do is slam the drivers door after I pull the hood release. That jars the hood just enough to pop up. Ha Ha...I love these stupid little quirks.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Hood whack here as well. Don't have to hit it that hard, just a bit to jar it.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Why don't y'all shoot some lithium grease inside the latch mechanism before the whack quits working. Jeez, lazy!

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
Cuz like everything else on the OBS trucks, if it ain't broke don't fix it! I'm another hood whacker lol. If closing my door doesn't pop it up, a nice half-hearted thud right above the latch always opens it. My bug deflector seems to absorb most of the impact, so no dents here!!
Edit: We should start a "Hood Whacker" club...

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
I also use the ol hood whack to pop it open. And to the guy that suggested lithium grease, my latching mechanism is coated in white crap and I can not get it to pop on its own more than about 2 times...

The hood whack is the only way mine opens.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
I have the dents in my hood to prove I'm an official member of the hood whacker club! Grease makes mine open for about a week, then I have to hit it again.

Re: Uh oh. The hood is stuck
My burb was terrible at this. I have lubed tweaked you name it and sometimes it took forever to get popped.
Couple of weeks ago I stopped and pulled the latch...nothing. Then I decided to move up a little so I started it ad moved ahead a few feet and the hood popped right up. So now that is my new method, pull the latch just before I am stopped.. works every time.
