Axle swap 96 Tahoe - 10 bolt to 14 bolt SF

My 10-bolt was trash, so I got me a 14-bolt SF from a 94 K1500 (or 2500..?)

I've read that I need a conversion u-joint from 1310/1330 to 1350.

The u-joint I've used before has the part # Precision 534G, and that's a 1 1/8" cap diameter, and 3 5/8" wide. (1344??)
Neither the 1310 nor the 1330 will fit the driveshaft, because they are only 1 1/16".

As for the 14-bolt, the 534G diameter is a little small, so the 1350 with 1 3/16" should do just fine..

But can anyone tell me what kind of u-joint I need?
Can't find a match..

Thanks!

Re: Axle swap 96 Tahoe - 10 bolt to 14 bolt SF

I can't remember which u-joint is correct for the conversion. The 14 bolt I put in my Tahoe is temporary, til I get my Dana 60 in there. So I just swapped the yoke from the 10 bolt and put it on the 14 bolt. They were the same spline pinion.

Isn't that a risky operation, as you can alter the pinion preload?

Re: Axle swap 96 Tahoe - 10 bolt to 14 bolt SF

It would only be risky if you over tighten or under tighten the pinion nut. I got by with pulling my axles and using a inch pound torque wrench, I measured rotational torque and set it at 10inch pounds. Risky, maybe, but mine is temporary. I did replace all of the seals as well as swap over all of my new 11in drum brakes from my 10bolt, had to reuse 14bolt drums.

If you don't replace the pinion seal then you might as well use the u-joint daved931 mentioned, good find BTW.

Napa sells the conversion u-joint, That is where I got mine. I know it was a precision u-joint.

Also keep in mind that the 2wd 2500 14SF is 3" narrower than a 4wd version.

Thanks!

I'll order one from Napa Online if I don't find one here.
That u-joint should be equal to Precision 447 if I'm not mistaken..
