same here. cant complain about it one bit though. 10K on it now, and was worth every penny.

Re: OH NO - What Have I DONE??? (Stump pulling mishap -- tranny?)

Spent $2000 on my 4L60E and it proved to be VERY durable even after over 100,000 miles. I used the hell out of it and up to the point when I sold the truck, the firmness never weakened. Same will be done on the 03 when it decides to go, hopefully not for a little while.

yea, you toasted it. i guess you know now...NEVER pull heavy loads in 4Hi. you could find a junkyard transmission cheap i'm sure...but you get what you pay for. i've heard good things from people who've used Bowtie Overdrives transmissions...or you could have a local shop build it. good luck with the wife...

Reverse? Why reverse? You have a 3.059 1st gear ratio and a 2.294 reverse gear ratio.

Same story here, 1800 for a rebuild of my 700R4 with upgraded internals ('vette servo, HD sunshell, etc. etc.). Be sure if you get it rebuilt the shop uses only AC Delco or better parts.

Re: OH NO - What Have I DONE??? (Stump pulling mishap -- tranny?)

if you have any mechanical inclination, you can pick up another one for under $200 from a local junkyard or probably craigslist and just put it in. Or, have that one rebuilt and do the swap yourself to save on labor. I have already said that I will rebuild my tranny only once, when it goes again, I fully intend to get a T56 F-body 6 speed. Similar gears, and a way better overdrive ratio (0.64:1 hell yeah)
