What Have I DONE???
Outside screwing around this evening.......
Wanted to see if I could pull out a huge stump, put it in 4hi - reverse - gave it some gas - then more gas - then I realized my gas pedal was to the floor - then I heard a little "POP". Now I have no reverse. Drove it around the yard and it didn't seem to change gears out of 1st either in "drive".
PLEASE tell me that I didn't really screw something up.
Its a 1992 Chevy 4x4 1500 by the way.

re: OH NO - What Have I DONE??? (Stump pulling mishap -- tranny?)
I've done something similar to what you're saying, twice. The first time was a while ago, but resulted in a lot of chunks of metal laying in the trans pan($1900 fix at trans shop). Second time it happened, turned out that i broke off the fingers in the case(If i remember correctly, the input drum rotated in the case, breaking the lugs). This happened with my Level 5 unit from FLT. Cost to fix was $640. So, your pretty much screwed.

your sunshell broke. My tranny did this exact same thing. if you slowly give it gas it may **** into 2nd, 3rd but you will have no overdrive. I paid $900 for a rebuilt tranny and $200 to have my old one taken out and put back in.

Re: What Have I DONE???
You killed your tranny. Shouldn't have tried pulling in 4HI in the first place, that's what low range is for.
IMO, try to find a rebuilt tranny to swap in it.

Re: What Have I DONE???
I might be new at this but I'm pretty sure it aint no muffler bearing!!! LOL - too funny!!
Everyone wants to know why 4H - well I guess it's pretty obvious now that I am needing a new transmission. This aint no fun!

That one on the right is what mine looked like when my tranny went. I paid $1,800 for a rebuild with all the HD goodies inside.
