They are owned by the same parent company but the quality is very different. B&D tools really suck for real use.
That being said B&D has some stuff I need like a hadge trimmer and such for the wife to work on our landscaping. I seem to recall one of the consumer brands like B&D had batteries that were compatible with a contractor brand like dewalt, anyone know which brands could share?

Re: Cordless Drills.....
i have the dewalt xrp kit with sawzall and impact and 1/2 drill/hammer. i have used Milwaukee there stuff is awesome especially there drills just a lil pricey. but if you want the biggest overkill contractor grade tool out there try a hilti 36v drill/hammer combo!!!!!! i have never used one but i have seen them on jobsites

**edit**
i have never used rigid cord less tools but i have one of there sawzalls and abrasive chop saws both work excellent. actually the rigid kicks my old milwaukee chop saws ass

thanks 454ss

Re: Cordless Drills.....
You need to look at how your going to use it before you go lithium ion, do you use it enough to justify the 3-4 year battery replacement cycle?

Makita 18v Li-Ion FTW...use it everyday all day and the battery holds a charge for roughly a month.

Re: Cordless Drills.....
i love my dewalt, very tough and plenty of power.
I like the makitas but they ont seem as durable as dewalts, very light tho. The way I see it, the dewalts are heavier but better durability. I have dropped mine plenty and its still runnin great. A guy I used to work with bought that makita 18V Li-Ion and dropped it once from holding it waist high, abd it never worked the same again. It was loud and wasn't nearly as powerful

Re: Cordless Drills.....
Just figured I would add my two cents...I used the Ryobi ni-cad a few years ago and was actually impressed with the way it held up as a daily user...plus replacement wasn't that big of a deal at 50-60 dollars for a 18 volt in case something did happen to it...thankfully it never did...

With that in mind, I recved the 18v lithium series kit (Ryobi) for xmas and absolutely love the power and how fast the batteries recharge (1/2 hr)....

Can't wait until they start making more lithium tools (like they did with the old ONE series)..

Anyway...that's it

Michael

Re: Cordless Drills.....
I started out with a Dewalt 14.4 but the batteries crapped out after a few years. Recently upgraded to complete 18 volt Dewalt kit and love it. Amazon.com has good prices on their stuff too. All my friends who work construction use Dewalt drills and love them.

I'm with the Ridgid guys. After having used a cordless drill every day all day for the last ten years, IMO it's the best. I was a firm Dewalt-aholic until i bought a Ridgid. While building a floating dock last summer, the batteries and the drill went in the water a total of 5 times. After shaking the sand out, it ran like new! I now recommend Ridgid to everyone.

Their corded tools are awesome too, BTW.

have you held one of each in your hands? quality between the two isnt even comparable. Dewalt is a MUCH beter tool.

Re: Cordless Drills.....
Dewalt is the premium Black and Decker brand, hence why you can't really go by an expensive top of the line drill that says B & D on it. That being said I have an 18V DeWalt XRP. Just recently had one of the batteries die on me after about 6 or 7 years.

I use to work doing store fixtures and the toolroom man took the B&D and the DeW drill cases apart and put them back together one half being black one half yellow. If that dont tell you it's the same tool nothing will. I will add that the bushings in the DeWalts,Milwalkie,Porter-Cable,Makita are brass and not plastic like in Ryobi,Chicago Pnuematic and the other cheap names.
