air compresser gone, what to get next?

I have had a craftsman 33 gallon 1.6 hp compresser for about 5 years. I use it almost every day. to day it changers tones got real loud and will only pump up to 50psi.
would it be woth it to fix it or just buy another one. I am thinking about getting a new upright that uses oil so it will be quiter. is there any I sould look at?

Simple fix, replace the piston, rod and cylinder. Kit runs about $45 and takes maybe 45 minutes to install.

Do you have 220 service where the compressor will be? Also, do you want a portable unit or a permanently mounted one? I have the 26 gallon Husky pro unit that is oil lubed and its not bad for the cost. If you are using it a lot, get an oil lubed one.

If that's an oilless pump, it's definitely worth upgrading. I have a 25 (IIRC) gal Craftsman Pro with an oil lubed, 2 piston (not 2 stage) pump, and I love it. I would probably prefer an iron crankcase, vs. the sleeved aluminum in this model, but, it's manufactured by Devilbliss, had the right price, and came with a regulator and everything. It's also a horizontal model, where I wanted a vertical, but really doesn't bother me. In any case, the oil lubed pumps are much quieter, last longer, and are more able to be rebuilt. I would doubt the oil-less one could be rebuilt.

I mainly looked at models right smack in the middle of portable and stationary, most of which can run off 110 or 220. Mine can run off 15amp 110, but it could certainly benefit from 220, at least in the cold. It tripped the breaker when I tried to use it this winter, with pressure still in the tank. This is plenty big for me though, and I'll be able to haul it downstairs to finish the basement.

Tank size is slightly smaller than the Husky model I almost bought, but it has a higher max tank pressure, so holds the same or more air. This, hoses, impact wrench, etc... were all on sale for father's day last year.

I have been with Sears a long time and have replaced many of kits in these oil less compressors.

if I can rebuld it that would be cheaper and last till I had more mone.
is this the right kit.

kk-4835 is the way I would go, should last another few years and operate like a new comp.
