What needed to run air tools?

I have an air tank compresser that will run a nail gun for framing. Is that big enough to run an air gun or equivalent to remove bolts for a body lift? Its a 3HP peak, what will it run? Will it run an air wrench? Or impact gun?

You will need at least something like this to run any type of automotive air tool with any type of success.......

Most automotive air tools require a minimum of 3 cfm at 90 psi. Any good impact gun requires at least 4.5 cfm at 90 psi. I run my Ingersol Rand 2135 impact gun at 5 cfm at 120 psi at work. I have yet to run into any bolt I haven't been able to loosen yet.

5.3 @90 psi a 4 gallons and in big letters says 135 psi. It came with a framing nail gun. According to you guys it should work.

I have a big shop at work full of loaders and forklifts, but I would sooner do this project at home incase I run into problems and need to leave it in pieces.

For removing old bolts on a 90 pickup, what kind of penatrating oil should I use? wd40? Would that be good enough or is there something better?

with only a 4 gallon reserve, its going to be running all the time, if it can keep up with your demands, it should be ok. if you end up having to hammer on the bolts with an impact to get them loose (and you probably will), you'll find that it wont keep up very well. i would look into getting a bigger tank, weather its just hooked inline to your existing tank, or a new compressor altogether, you'll be much more satisfied.

The cfm ratings on impacts are what it takes to spin them, not what it takes to run them. My impact says 5.9cfm, when under load it takes 14cfm. A 4 gal tank is not qoing to help any either.

I have a 15 gal tank, not sure how many cfm, or hp.
But that won't run my 1/2" Snap on impact.
I can use it to break bolts loose but that's about it.

I have a 5 gallon tank and at 175 psi I have just enough juice to take all my lugnuts off without refilling...but thats it...

To add to my previous post, I have a Sears Professional 33 gallon 6.5 hp compressor. It runs my impact guns (2135Ti) well enough to do lugnuts and most fastners, but I tried to do a crank pulley and it just wasn't enough even at 130psi.

Yeah i second the vote on pb blaster. I love that stuff. The jet that it sprays out you can lay under one end of the vehicle and spray bolts and nuts from one end to the other. It has broken loose any old rusted bolt that i have encountered.

wd40 is a water displacer. pb blaster is good BG inforce is better. i bought it from the the bg dealer because the dealership i work at wouldn't. they started buying it after the rest of the shop saw how well it worked.

i run an impact off of 3gal 200psi. it works but always refils when i am out.

at home i have a 50gal talk and about 130psi. i can run and impact all day and not have it kick on.
