New torque wrench?
I need help picking a torque wrench. I need a good accurate wrench for just general automotive work, maybe a motor build or two later on in the future. I don't need a super expensive one. What brands/ wrenches do yall recommend?

Re: New torque wrench?
I have a craftsman torque wrenches in 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Both are great wrenches of shade tree mechanic. If I was to use it every day for my job, I would buy one from a manufacturer that offers a calibration service.

Re: New torque wrench?
if you do buy a crastman one, just remember to reset it to 0 ftlbs each time you use it and it'll be accurate for much much longer. leaving it set at say 100lbs stretches that spring out. it's the quivelant of pulling the string off of a long bow after you're done using it.

Re: New torque wrench?
Personally I have a Snap-on TechAngle, but that's pretty much as advanced as you get in torque wrenches. It's all digital, does ft.lbs, N-m, In-lbs and angle. I do it for a living though, so unless you do too I wouldn't tell you to spend $650 on a torque wrench. Any of the Craftsman or Mastercraft ones are good, like said above, make sure you bring it back to 0 after use. That's the general rule of thumb for any torque wrench though.

I have craftsman and Ace professional. You can get ace at ace hardware store. It's just has accurate as my craftsman. I believe I payed $80 for the 3/8 ace one. I have 3/8, 1/2. I use 1/2 alot on wheels and tires.

I can't stand the new snap on digital torque wrenches. Best bet is to find yourself a used snap on non-digital wrench from a snap on dealer. They will sell to the public off of their truck if you pay in full at the time of purchase.

I second that one. It is a bit pricey but well worth it in the long run..
