Upgrade Compressor Motor
So this is the compressor I have http://www.cpocampbellhausfeld.com/a...6111_spec.html except it's been branded as a Husky.
I need more power out of this thing. Any ideas for upgrading the motor?

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Sell it and buy a bigger compressor, there is no way to upgrade an oilless compressor. What all are you using it for?

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
20 gallon sandblaster. cutoff tools. they make oiled pumps with the same 26 gallon tanks. there's gotta be a way to fab something up. what would i do when the motor dies? its discontinued. i find it hard to believe that many people end up with essentially big holding tanks once the motor dies.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Well no 26 gal 110v air compressor is going to run a sanblaster. You are going to need at least 14-16cfm @90 to run the sandblaster with any success. By the time you piece together another motor(non direct drive) and match a pump to it weld an extension plate to hold it, plumb everything in, you could buy a better 220v outfit.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
That's one of the more logical replies I've seen in a while. Thank you. Looks like it's time to hit up craigs list.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
What would be your recommendation for a compressor. My biggest issue is I'm in an apartment and don't have access to a 220 line. However, I spent a few years in the pool business and am very familiar with the c-frame motors that run the pumps. I probably have 10-12 of them in my garage and they range from 3/4 to 3 hp. Most of them can be wired to 110v. Does that sound viable?

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Well in that case, you may have to link two smaller compressors together for sandblasting, you will have to wait for air, but it can be done. I am runnung a Puma with 18cfm@90 and I sometimes run short when blasting, but in you situation, with two strong 110v units and you take it easy, you should be fine. People will tell you to get a holding tank, I disagree with that, because the compressor works twice as hard to fill it up every time it gets empty. That is a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Ok, I could probably pick up another 110v compressor for fairly cheap. I don't think the holding tank is a good idea either.
I was originally thinking I could get an oiled pump assembly and attach one of the motors I have to it. Figured for $250 I could have a more powerful compressor. I would probably buy an 11 gallon holding tank from Home Depot ($30) and mount the oil less pump to it. What do you think about that idea? If you think it's a good one, what pump should I get a hold of?

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Soundslike a good plan, as far as a pump, a good two piston, cast iron will do. I would suggest Puma, if you can find a dealer near you. Northern Tool has some decent pumps as well.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
That is a very good pump, it is also rebuildable. I have sold these pumps to replace everything from Emglo to IR to CH and coleman. Price is good on that pump.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
The only thing I'm having trouble finding is a way to attach a pulley to the threaded shaft.
IOW, I can't find a threaded pulley. Any suggestions? I'm probably gonna hook up a 3hp to this bad boy. Now that I think about it, do you see any issues mounting the pump to a dolly and using standard pressure hose to plumb it into the existing tank? Or should I use copper lines? That way I wouldn't have to mess with putting the weaker pump onto a different tank. I could simply disconnect the larger pump when I need the compressor to run nailers on job sites. That would also allow me to hook the big pump directly to my sandblaster....That sounds dangerous :) Edit: Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
Well in that case, it might be less expensive, and safer to buy another compressor. You would have to have a tank for the compressor to set on. Also you would have to have a pressure switch(to keep things safe and operating properly) and copper lines . Sears has a 25 gallon oil lubricated compressor for around $400. It is a very good outfit, I sold mine last year(7 years old) for $250.

Re: Upgrade Compressor Motor
I think I'm gonna take your advice and hook up an additional 110v compressor to the mix. I'll just borrow my grandfather's.
BTW, not that it makes THAT big of a difference, my compressor is 32 gallons not 26.
