Shop build

First a little back story for you. I have a two car garage with a little 8 by 10 workshop area on one side at the back. You can see it off to the right. The door on the left goes into the laundry room.

When we bought the house the previous owner had a rickety workbench made out of the old kitchen cabinets. I tore that out and made my own in the same place out of some solid oak doors that they were throwing away at work. Never realy got around to putting up shelves to get organized. Which means after each project stuff just gets dumped on the workbench.

You can see the pile continues to grow.

One thing that became apparent after we had lived here a while was if I was banging or cutting on somethin in the vice it shook everything on the opposite side of the wall in the laundry room. So I decided to move it to the other wall before work on the Chevelle gets back under way. Plus I need to make room for the new stuff like the blast cabinet, compressor, etc.

I needed someplace to put all of the crap so the Chevelle is reduced to being a temp work bench. How the mighty have fallen.

No electric where I want the bench to go so that's first. Dad and muddychevy98 ( Ken ) came over to hang out and lend a hand.

Added a new breaker for the outlets plus some lights I'll be adding in the ceiling.

Put in some shelving.

Moved the bench and mounted the new vice and a power strip that followed me home from work.

Next is relocate the dryer vent so that I can put things flush up to the wall. It didnt matter when it was under the bench.

Ya know, you wouldn't have such a space/equipment/clutter/storage problem if they took away your computer at work.

Yup. I'm gonna pick up some plastic sheeting and wall off the other side of the garage to blast it in.

Re: Shop build

Hey Jason!

For a lighting idea, my gf's dad has the florescent tubes, 2 of them like every 4 feet in his garage side walls, and his garage is big, you can fit 4 cars in it, and as for lighting, I have NEVER seen any thing like that since the lighting is so great, it looks and makes everything else awesome for working. Just givin you an idea. He used to paint cars for a living, that's why they are there, but it is very good to have.

Thanks Gregg, sure is. Our last house was my grandfathers and when we bought it the garage was already a disaster from my uncle so when we moved in to this house I always said I wouldnt let mine get to that point.

I guess we saw how that turned out.

Yeah, that's the setup my dad has and also what I had in my last one. A half dozen 6 foot fixtures around the garage. My dad has a few extra 4 foot ones up at the hangar that he's gonna give me.

Yeah, there real nice set ups, lots-o-light and all. I want to do that in my garage, but I am border line retarded when it comes to wiring, so it wouldn't be to feasible for me.

Re: Shop build

Got the lights wired up last night and hung the fixtures but dad forgot to bring the bulbs.

I'll put them in tonight and get some pics.

Yeah, I've been needing to add more lights since we bought the place. The garage is two cars wide and about two cars long at the little shop area and the only light source is the little 60w bulb fixture in the middle of the ceiling above where the cars go.

In the shop area now is two double tube 4 foot florescent fixtures. I'll be adding more to the rest or the garage later on.
