Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
Hey Bigwhite93, can we get a picture from a distance? Like step back a ways so we can see how the mirrors flow with the rest of the body.

The new dodge towing mirrors are awesome. I'm used for the ford/GM style and then my friend got a new Dodge and I have to say I like those mirrors over the Ford and GM ones.
Someone put them on an obs so I can see what they look like without spending my own money.

Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
A member over on Diesel Towing Resource did a write-up on it in the 6.5 forum. I'll see if I can get him to post it over here too.

Hello, RCpullerdude invited me over to do a write up. I have the Dodge TTT mirrors on both my OBS trucks. They work great and IMO look good to.
If anyone has an interest I could do a write up on them.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to post pictures. Maybe my post count is to low? Is there a "how to" somewhere?

Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
best way to post pictures is to upload them to photobucket then post the link for the photo in your post.

Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
Would it be best to take whatever mirror you want and mold it to the original mirror from our style trucks so the mounting points are perfect?
If I ever find some new style Chevy mirrors I will definitely do this mod. I will for sure color match them.

Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
the OBS trucks do not need any modifications to mount the 98-02 dodge towing mirrors. I am going to pick up a set soon.

Re: Elephant Ears on a OBS
First off, the Dodge mirrors have a longer stud than the GM's do. I used mine with the Dodge studs, but you could remove them and use shorter ones.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/870...mirrors004.jpg
If you buy new you will get a backing plate. It will need to be cut down to fit the hole in the GM door.
I used sway bar bushing to space out the backing plate and to give some vibration damping.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/361...mirrors006.jpg
Picture comparing the studs.
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/899...mirrors008.jpg
You will need to drill new holes for the studs. Have a friend hold the mirror where you want it then mak the hole to be drilled. Put alittle paint on the holes to prevent rust.
Slide the mirror in place. slide the bushings on each stud.
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/475...mirrors009.jpg
Install the backing plate and tighten nuts.
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/338...mirrors010.jpg
Pretty easy mod. Just take your time when drilling the holes. Overall I love the function of them compaired to stock. They are a much bigger mirror, but they don't look to big when on the truck.
When towing they are great.
Mine are non power. I bought them back in 2005. I understand you can get them on ebay now for less than $200 w/power, but they are aftermarket mirrors.
