Im pretty sure I want to be in 4 Hi when i rip out some bushes but i remember a thread awhile back where someone tried it and broke something, but i think they were in 4Lo

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

IMO i would use 4-Lo and use the torque to pull them up slowly..if you think you have to get a running start and yank 'em i reckon 4-Hi would work better

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

If someone messed up a trans pulling bushes, then either the trans was already weak or they did it wrong!

4lo is for slow, hard grunting. Wouldn't you say that is just about how you should pull out a bush?

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

for small wimpy bushes, hell you could pull them out in 2wd. if they are big behemoths i would use 4-lo. i'm thinking the person that messed up their tranny was trying to go too fast in 4-lo.

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

4-Low, definitely. IIRC, the guy that killed his tranny was in 4-Hi, but when he gave it some gas and it wasn't spinning or pulling, he floored it, and the tranny broke.

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

Just use common sense, if it's jerking the truck hard or really slamming shifts then do it a different way.

I always try gently pulling things first Hi then Lo.

Re: 4HI when ripping out bushes correct??

Depending on the type of bush, a truck may not pull it out... Some of the old school yews around here won't come out with a small tractor, and either have to be cut & ground or dug out.

We once tied 4 trucks onto a single bush, only to destroy the entire yard, rather than just a small section.

4-LO, unless you're jerking.

i used my truck in 4-Lo to take a huge dead branch over the driveway down..the neighbors across the street sat out there open mouthed and i could read the "what a redneck" crossing their lips but it came down
