If they put a FF in the 1500HD why make a 1500HD? Thats one of the point to buy a 2500HD, for the FF.

But not all 2500's have them. But, I got confused at the end of the post anyways

Re: 1500 hd
The best way to tell what class a truck is in is to use the trucks Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
Regular 1500 6200 lb GVWR
1500HD 8600 lb GVWR
Regular 2500 8600 lb GVWR
2500HD 9200 lb GVWR
The payload capacity and tow ratings between the 1500Hd and regular 2500 are identical. The 2500HD has 600lb more payload.

Re: 1500 hd
Ok, so from a strength aspect, besides the rear axle being SF instead of FF, my 1500HD is the same as a 2500. I am really curious about this because I really want to buy a wrecked D-max and do the entire swap into the 1500HD, but I was worried the frame was weaker.

Frame thickness between the two is like 7 hundredths of an inch. Should be fine.

Never heard of or seen a dmax without a FF rearend....or an HD for that matter, any documentation of this? A picture of your glovebox door will do fine.

the original ff 14 bolt was the corporate 10.5"
then when the nbs came out sometime they added the AAM 11.5" 14 bolt (not corporate) that was behind the duramax and 8.1 big block. it had 2 versions iirc
so all in all
corporate 9.5" sf
corporate 10.5" ff
aam 11.5" ff
another aam 11.5" ff
kappesh?

RING GEAR SIZE!!!
lol the corporate 14 bolt has a 10.5" ring gear, all nbs hd's without the 6.0 had the 11.5" ring gear aam. its 1" bigger but still has bolt in axle shafts.

so would AAM be the company that has the right to the name or just the company that builds them and thats what they go by?
