1500 hd

I didnt know where to post this, but I thought this was the best place.

I have been thinking ( at the risk of hurting something). My cousin has owned a 1500 HD for a few years now. I think it is an '01 but it could be an '02. It has a 6.0L and an automatic. It is 4wd. The truck is an 8 lug. From what I understand the only difference is it has a non HD front clip and 245 series tires. Is there something else different about these trucks?

Re: 1500 hd

they replaced the 2500 mainly to compete with dodge and ford in the crew cab version. it use to be 2500 and 2500hd but they dropped the ld.

Re: 1500 hd

Brakes are almost identical – the rear rotors on the 2500 HD are 1.1 inches thick as opposed to 1.4 inches thick on the 1500 HD, but otherwise they are the same. The frame on the 2500 HD is made with .197-inch thick steel as opposed to .157-inch on the 1500 HD (or .106-inch on a half-ton 1500). Any difference in frame flex is virtually impossible to detect, as the 1500 HD frame feels much stiffer than the frame of a 1998 one ton. The rear GAWR on the 2500 HD is 6,084 pounds as opposed to 6,000 on the 1500 HD. Subtract the empty weight and both trucks have approximately 3,400 pounds of load capacity available on their rear axles. Tires, wheel base, springs and shocks are all identical, so there is no safety advantage with the 2500 HD.

The 1500hd and 2500 have semi floater 14 bolt with 9.5 ring gear and 2500hd have a full floater 14bolt with 10.5 ring gear

Re: 1500 hd

Six cylinders have been in full size trucks for a long time.

Why make the semi floationg 14 bolt. It is weak. They had semi floating 10 bolts for 1/4 ton 1/2 ton and 14 bolt full floating in 3/4 ton and 1 ton.

a 9.5" 14 bolt is weak? it blows the 8.5" SF out of the water in every aspect, and actually has bigger axle shafts than the 10.5" 14FF.

94 C/1500, can you tell me why the 14SF has bigger axle shafts than the stronger FF? nobody else respond.

Re: 1500 hd

Don't care why it has bigger shafts. A full floating axle is stronger by design. I know the 14 bolt semi floater is stronger than a 10 bolt. Never said it wasnt.

I think having a beefier semi floating axle vs. a stock full floating axle is like a modified IFS vs. a solid axle. It dosn't make much sense having strong parts on a weak design.

Re: 1500 hd

so you have no clue why its stronger, just that it is... thanks for confirming you have no idea what you're posting about.

i'd put my 9.5" semi floating 14 bolts up against a full floating Dana 60 any day... and they'd probably come out on top despite being a semi floating axle.

agreed

this is like the 4th thread that makes c1500 look like a moron IMO

like c1500's v6 is a 10 bolt killer let alone a 14 bolt's bane

Re: 1500 hd

I never said a 10 bolt was strong. They are junk. I am not a big fan stripped pinion gears.

Re: 1500 hd

This thread isnt about my V6 truck.

How does that axle compare to a Dana 70 Or 80?

Re: 1500 hd

considering both of those axles have a ring gear bigger than 9.5" (which the Dana 60 and 14SF both have), apples to oranges.
