Good Deal?
I have a guy by me that is willing to trade his 2001 2500 HD, 4x4, ex cab, long box, with the 8.1 and 60,000miles, has a rhino liner, pw, pl, ps, cloth interior, and says no cosmetic issues, but havent saw it in person. My truck is a 2001 1500 Silvy 5.3 4x4 ex cab short box with 150000 miles and a 9" lift, set of 35 and 33in tires with rims for each, exhaust, tw, pl, pw , ps, all in good condition. Im thinking that if his truck is in good condition it would be a good trade for sure. Im trying for it because I need a truck to pull horse trailers. What do you guys think?

nope sell yours buy his do not trade. you could be the exception to the rule but a trade is never the way to do things.

Re: Good Deal?
I would do it in a hart beat. A better truck with less miles.

Re: Good Deal?
I would.
The only reason I wouldn't is for a diesel.

Re: Good Deal?
Sounds like a good plan to me. Idk what size horse trailers your hauling but that a healthy 8.1 shouldn't notice a trailer until you get into the bigger gooseneck stuff or a big bumper pull.

Re: Good Deal?
the one trailer is probably about a 20ft gooseneck and the other is a 42ft gooseneck, i have some access to a 04 3500 Chevy dually gasser that i can probably use for the big trailer though. A diesel would be perfect, if i could get my hands on one i would love that

Re: Good Deal?
I'd think the 8.1 2500hd should be fine for both trailers. Just have to watch how you load the 42fter so you don't go pin weight crazy. Get some good load range E tires on the truck and some airbags on the rear and it will hold the weight a lot better.

Re: Good Deal?
If you want the 8.1, go for it. Unless you have your heart set on a dmax, then it's a good trade, but dont shortchange yourself, if you really want a diesel
other than that
Mark, whats the significance/special meaning (if there is one) of your sig quote?

Re: Good Deal?
Do it anyway unless the body is beat to carp the 8.1 is worth more $$$, so then trade in on a diesel would be better ETC.

It's from a song by Luke Bryan. If you listen to the song and understand that I'm a country kid who has been around farming my whole life and growing up my mom and dad both drove obs chevy pickups. Dad still drives GM 1/2tons, sis has a nbs, I've got my obs and mom has a gmc suv. So growing up and even now I never had to ride in a car like most kids did. It was always trucks.

Re: Good Deal?
If everything checks out I would do that in a heartbeat. You would be getting the better deal... Unless like was said earlier your really set on a Dmax

Re: Good Deal?
well im thinking a diesel would be nice for the mileage, they haul great, and you can add power relatively cheap. Right now the guy is dragging me around saying his girlfriend doesnt like the idea because she is 5' tall standing on her toes, so it would be a hassle for her just to get in, so he doesnt want to piss her off. I dont have any pics of his truck right now, but if he backs out i think my best bet might be to sell my truck outright and put that toward a diesel

Re: Good Deal?
I almost can't believe he will trade with you....my son just bought a similar truck and the 8.1 is a powerhouse....he has a gooseneck and pulls anything but his house....great deal for a 3/4 and the big motor

Re: Good Deal?
I think I would still agree if he will trade do so.
Even if you are set on a diesel or want one later. You gas mileage will suck now, but you can trade that in on a diesel. It will be worth more on trade or private sale too.
