Re: Buying a 1500
SO I found a 2005 black single cab 2WD 5.3 with 32,000 miles I talked to the dealer he will let it go to me for $13,000 out the door. THe GM Build sheet says 3.23 Axel Ratio, 5.3 295HP iron BLK V8, HD AUX TRANS cooling system, G80 locking diff, I hope this is enough to pull 5,000 pounds 3,285 mils home =)
I am still debating on this truck it is a 6 hour drive to get it...

Re: Buying a 1500
well, even though its a reg cab 2wd, 3.23's are going to suck pulling anything at all, but if the price is good and you like it, i say good luck.

Re: Buying a 1500
Yeah I know 3.23's do suck but I feel its a good price... how much would it cost to get the gearing changed?

Re: Buying a 1500
It'll cost you about $500 or so to get the gears changed. The 3.23's will pull your S2000 just fine. Do not put it in OD...leave it in D and Tow/Haul on. Keep your speed down...maybe around 70. It'll be turning about 2600 RPM's in D @ 70 mph, that should be right in the powerband and yield good power and decent mileage (for pulling 5000 lbs.)
As some guys have mentioned earlier, what are your plans for the truck when you get to Cali? If you plan to just drive it without pulling big loads all the time or putting 20" wheels on it, the 3.23's will be fine, because it'll yield better fuel mileage. If you plan to pull a lot or put larger wheels you might want to think about going to 3.42's or 3.73's in the future.

I appreciate that good info and no I do not plan on towing anything after this big move. I want to get a 17ft bass boat eventually but not for at least another year or so lol

Re: Buying a 1500
I have a 2007 NNBS with the 4.8 with the sucky 3.23 gears.
I have made several trips to the dump, and while it does start off slow its not to bad. Heaviest load to the dump 5300 pounds. Just leave the tranny in drive or 3rd gear, and you'll be about 2400 rpm doing 70mph. That will give you enough power to take any hill with that much weight.

Re: Buying a 1500
Sweet ride!! I've always like the SS wheels on a RCSB truck. I've got a friend with a 02 RCLB, black like yours. He's running a Magnacharged 5.3L, 4L65E, & 3.73's...goes consistant mid 12's and gets 20 mpg with it.

Re: Buying a 1500
Was that grille modified for the HD hood to fit it, or do they just fit that well already?

Re: Buying a 1500
What I want to do is a rear disk conversion I can not believe vehicles espically trucks are still equipped with drums. How much does it cost in parts and where can I get an oem set up?

There really isn't any need to go to the expense of doing a rear disk swap. It will make it stop a little better but actually GM went back to drums and put bigger brakes up front and they stop better then the 99-04 NBS

Re: Buying a 1500
Yeah they went to drums because it was cheaper and they could do it without sacrificing braking performance.
