Re: Are neons possible??
Here is my go at it. I made the environment "night time" and added a "as close to neon" effect as I could with reflections and ambience.

Go with LED tubes... more durable and longer lasting. Should be much less risk of breakage over rough terrain if you wheel at all

Re: Are neons possible??
thowle - if you don't mind me asking, how did you go about doing yours? i know how you did the darkness of the picture - but the lights is what i am interested in - i did mine w/ the path selection - but i really like how you did the taillights and the front park lights.. and the neon tubes

- Also here in NC blue is highly illegal and for off-road use Only.. as is red.. and cops freq. pull people over for purple saying its blue.. - so white and yellow, green etc are about the only things we can run on road - so i would choose the white - but i really like the blue

Re: Are neons possible??
Hey GMCYukalade,

I used Microsoft PhotoDraw (which is software that was discontinued in like 2000 or something). Everyone says its not powerful and cannot every live up to Photoshop; I beg to differ :)

I cropped out the vehicle, and the trees; inverted them and went back and drew the trees with a black background. Then I took the vehicle and did a cutout of the highlight points so the neon reflection on the ground would radiate and bounce off of the vehicle (as you can see more so with the light blue neon).

I took a line and drew the light bar under the body then added the color gradient effects to make it look real; added some blur and drew a circle reflex, and painted a glow around it.

I then made an oval on the left and right side of the body and added the blue color with blur for the reflection; then adjusted the transparency.

There are some other steps in there that I have forgot to write up, but mostly just messing with it until I think it looks real.

I also re-drew the windows on the vehicle body, and went in and drew around the tires, body, and wheels so that it looked like it was actually a "night photo" to begin with... then of course messing with the fence, flowers and the garage in the background.

Re: Are neons possible??
PS, for the tail lights I just drew a few different sized shapes on the body to reflect like it would actually look if the lights were on. Takes some thinking (and I know it's still not perfect).

Re: Are neons possible??
I don't know how much the lights will light up the ground 'cause you are soo high off the ground. I have see lifted trucks with lights mounted on the top of the inside of the wheel wells so that you cant see the lights and they would light up the entire wheel well. That would be cheaper and maybe give a little better effect on a lifted vehicle.

Re: Are neons possible??
PhotoDraw eh.. cool - i like it!

- As for lifted trucks, round here we don't usually mount Neons (show trucks are an exception) - however we usually mount some off-road fog lights under the body, because we really do use them off-road, they light up everything under the truck so we can see what we are doing on rocks etc at night (because most of the trails we go on, you don't want to be on during the day...)
