Hello from Grand Rapids MI
hey whats up? my name is John and i've come to FSC on the recommendation of a friend.
i just bought a 96 Silverado, extended cab, step side, Z71. 233k miles on it (apparently its been across the country a few times). runs fantastic. trans shifts great, 4x4 engages with no problems. it's got a little rust on it, but nothing spectacular. the clear coat is coming off the hood a bit, and i don't think it's ever seen wax/polish, but that'll change soon enough.
so, i know nothing about trucks. i'm here to get an education. i'm a car guy. i just sold my 1999 Grand Prix GT that was my baby. i had it for 5 years and took care of it well. the selling price reflected it, and i'm glad it went to someone that noticed that. it had a L36 block (higher compression), but i bolted up an eaton M90 supercharger. never got into cams or heads, but forced induction was fun. i've moved on though, it's hard to part with something that you've put so much time and effort into, but i think i'm better off now.
i'm a new (to me) homeowner, and an even newer newlywed. my wife and i were married on august 8th, and have settled here in Grand Rapids. our pride and joy right now is our 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. we drove it off the showroom floor almost one year ago, and it's been an ungodly amount of fun to have. the car commands attention, the looks it gets at stop lights and from passers by is awesome. it's got a stock motor, and the only thing we've done to it is window tint and HIDs. we drive it in the winter with snow tires, but now that we've got a truck we won't have to drive it as much.
anyway, for the truck, i'll probably do some HID headlights, because the stockers don't throw the light like i would like it too. if anyone has any knowledge or expertise with HIDs in these trucks, feel free to clue me in.
also, i'm wondering if a simple intake (tube and K&N cone) would benefit me at all. the previous owner told me it sucked gas pretty well, but i know that's to be expected.

Re: Hello from Grand Rapids MI
Welcome! I'm in the GR area as well.
I still vote to call them GMT 400, GMT 800 and GMT 900, but on here they are "Old Body Style," "New Body Style," "New New Body Style."

Re: Hello from Grand Rapids MI
Welcome.
You should take both of them over to Baker Engineering and have TJ tune them.

Re: Hello from Grand Rapids MI
thanks guys. one of my good friends and i just checked the whole truck over. motor is solid with many gaskets recently replaced. good oil, good tranny fluid. downside is that it needs ball joints and an idler arm.

Nice looking vehicles. That G8 looks awesome.
Where are you in GR? Looks like suburbs somewhere.

the picture was taken in Jenison at my brother's house right after i picked it up. but i live in wyoming MI, burlingame just north of 36th street.
as for a tune, the truck might get one, but the G8 won't. GM dealers set out a notice that any modification to the stock tune will result in nullification of the powertrain warranty. and when transmissions for these cars run 4-5k, i don't want to screw with that.

Re: Hello from Grand Rapids MI
I believe I read on, atleast our truck, they have to prove that the tune is what actually caused it. But there's alot of debate over that, and I'm not sure
But you can order stock pcm's to keep, and tune another. If you break something and it wasnt the tunes fault, swap the other chip in and call it in
just throwin that out there, incase you did want on for it
