you must not like your passengers much...hence the airbag being shutoff...nice build, what type of wood is that and how did you make the radius on the corners?
The console is almost built, but far from finished. Once I do some finishing touches to the console it will be time to fiberglass it! Then Ill attach the lid, place the cup holders, and add the sub. Heres a sneak peak for yall. Sorry for the huge pictures, I didnt take the time to resize them.
Heres what the finished result should look like minus the release on the lid. All covered in the fiberglass with the exception of the leather lid. I made that on photoshop
Heres what it looks like now
Decided to put it in the truck to give you a better idea. I like the height it makes for the perfect arm rest lol, the other one was to low.

clears the front cup holders fine, and the sits wont rub

I'm using pine plywood. Doesn't cost as much as mdf, and will sound about the same. The corners are made out of a 2" pine dial that I cut in half, then once I added the top piece I used a jigsaw to get a rough curved which I touched up with the sander. Great thing about it is that nothing has to be perfect, because it will all be covered with the fiberglass anyway.
Update!! even though I didn't get much feedback last time![]()
Things have been going slower than I would like, but I'm in the final stages. I covered the frame in fiberglass, sanded it, then added a thin layer of Bondo to get rid of some small imperfections. Sometime this week Im gonna cut down the lid a bit and take it to an upholster to have it covered with foam and vinyl. Yesterday I order my JL 10" 3v3-2 500W sub and a Alpine MRP 500 amp. Got em for $315 from techronics. Once those come in, Ill be able to cut the hole for the sub and get on that final coat of primer. After some sanding It'll be ready to shoot with paint. I also decided to not make the lid open, because I was afraid of rattling.

looking good man keep up teh good work, I'd like to build a new center console for my truck too one of these days lol!!

1991 RCSB, 5.7L, 700R4, 3.08, 152,300 original miles, under construction. I gave a $100 for an '89 S10 blazer, I put 3300 miles on it when my fuel pump went bad, so a new fuel filter and a fuel pump. It has a 3.08 rear end and 700r4 just like the 1991 C1500 on my signature.
Agreed. Or wrap it in vinyl.Originally Posted by TREY333

4 cup holders?
Before I made this one I had 6. The flipdowns and 4 in the console. The fipdowns ones arent that good though, its easy to spill stuff.Originally Posted by Mikes1993Z71
Thanks guys! Trust me I thought along time about the console. I could put a piano hinge on the lid easily and make it latch but even then whatever I put inside it may rattle. I also have to consider bolting it down. I've already designed it to just be an armrest..cheaper, sturdier, and easier.
Looks good. How are you going to attach the "lid" to the it?

Update, Will be finished for sure By next Monday. Amp is installed, sub has arrived, armrest is covered, already wired up, final layer of primer is prepped...just waititng to get the paint.
sorry for the wait
You cant see it, but theres a big square hole under the lid right now, if you take it off. Thats how Im going to bolt the console to the floor. As for the lid Im going to sink some bolts through it where the head and wood are flush, because It will be wrapped with a layer of foam then vinyl, you wont see them. My cup holders aren't permanently attached, they just fit really snug..so when im ready Ill pull those out and reach my arm up under the lid through that hole and be able to screw the nuts on.Originally Posted by BaMaDuDe87

looks good! but i cant believe you dont want a console! i put so much crap in mine...
Never really used mine before. I had a cell phone charger, a map, and a pen...that was about it. I mean id occasionally put more stuff in it, but my glove box works fine.Originally Posted by Nick Z71
Nice craftsmanship. I'd argue the pine plywood vs mdf point, but it isn't like you are putting a monster sub in there anyway.
I too have a ton of chit in my console, but seemingly never take any of it out so I probably wouldn't miss it anyways.

Ive had it done for a while now, but I've been to lazy to post up the pictures. I'm extremely happy with it. Although the pictures make it look a tad different color wise than it really is, It blends in much better in person. I guess the flash is making it brighter.

Looks great. I would go ahead and take out those flimsy flop down cup holders and let the center console extend into there and you could fab up more cup holders or w/e

Looks good. Add the Chevrolet on the armrest IMO though.
the cup holder area is where you do a flip out screen.
Im talking automatic flip-out.
